I get asked all the time what my favorite craft tool is. Without hesitation, I can tell you that hands down my favorite craft tool is my Cricut. I use it to create literally everything from home decor to personalized parties. Once they discover my secret weapon they want to know what are my favorite products to use with it.
I’m answering those questions and sharing the essential things for a beginner Cricut user to have. To make it easy I’m breaking it down by machines, materials, and tools so you find the right Cricut gift for every budget.
Cricut Gifts: Machines
The ultimate Cricut gift and the machine I’m recommending is the Cricut Maker. While I love the Explore Air 2 and have a list of reasons why this machine is a great option too, the Maker is just so versatile and in my opinion a better investment. If you have the budget for it, it’s definitely the way to go!
The Cricut Maker’s cutting capabilities are so broad and you can cut a variety of materials like chipboard, leather, wood, and aluminum to create everything from Personalized Fabric Pillows to DIY Leather Luggage Tags. It has an adaptive tool system, with an innovative design, that allows you to easily change out the tools making it even easier to craft and create projects as expansive as your imagination.
Cricut Gifts: Tools
EasyPress 2 & Mat
If you are looking to make T-shirts, favor bags or virtually anything with Iron-on the EasyPress 2 is a must! It comes in a variety of sizes and it takes iron on to a whole new level in terms of staying power. The EasyPress 2 is affordable, it heats up faster and higher than your iron and delivers long-lasting professional results in less than 2 minutes. You can read more about the Pros and Cons of the EasyPress 2, but this is an affordable Cricut Gift that every crafter needs.
Knife Blade
One of the great things about the Cricut Maker is the adaptive tool system and the unique interchangeable tools that can be used with it. One of my favorites is the Knife Blade, with this tool you can cut heavier materials like chipboard and leather to create your own personalized gifts or party decor. Be sure to check out this post about all the cool materials you can cut with the Cricut Knife Blade.
Scoring Wheel
Just like the Knife Blade, the Scoring Wheel is a must in my Cricut tool set. Just like the other tools, for the Cricut Maker, the Scoring Wheel has the same gear system and offers precise, crisp lines as it scores your material. From flawlessly finished tags, cards and gift boxes to 3D home decor, you’ll get pro-level precision to every possible crease-and-fold project. If you are adding this Cricut Gift to your list be sure to check out my post on How to Use the Scoring Wheel.
Weeding Tool Set
I know it may seem silly that this tool is a must, but if you are doing any vinyl or iron-on projects this will save you lots of time. With the weeding tool set, you can lift, remove, and place the most intricate cuts with speed, ease, and accuracy. This tool would make a great stocking stuffer for the crafty person on your list.
Portable Trimmer
This portable trimmer is one of my favorite tools for making sure I’m cutting straight lines – which is especially important when you’re cutting out party printables, cutting vinyl to size, and even cutting transfer tape! I use this trimmer all the time and I often have to go on the hunt for it because my kids keep “borrowing it” for their projects too!
Cricut Gifts: Materials
Cricut Vinyl
Of all the materials I use I probably use this one the most. Vinyl is the easiest way to add instant personalization and updates to just about any project. But, not all vinyl is created equally. Trust me on this one and don’t skimp on the discount vinyl you can find at the craft store, you will just end up frustrated and disappointed with the results. Cricut vinyl comes in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures and you can use it to make everything from home decor signs to party decor.
Transfer Paper
If you love vinyl, you also need a supply of transfer paper and I recommend having both regular transfer paper and strong grip transfer paper in your stash. Wrap up a roll along with a roll or two of colorful vinyl and you’ll have a gift that any crafter would love.
Cricut Iron-on
Like vinyl, iron-on makes it so quick and easy to alter and personalize hats, shoes, tote bags, or other clothing items. I use it all the time to personalize favor bags, and make cute shirts for every occasion! You can even use it on a wood surface which means you can grab those old signs at the thrift store, add a coat of paint, and use iron-on to create your own wall art.
Chipboard
Chipboard is one of the materials I often use with the Knife Blade. I think it’s one of the most versatile materials that can be used for all kinds of projects from party decor to home decor. It’s also less expensive than some of the other materials, which gives me the freedom to experiment a little bit more than I would with some of the other materials.
Infusible Ink
Cricut Infusible Ink is the coolest new product to hit the crafting market and seamlessly interacts with and enhances the Cricut ecosystem, especially the Cricut Maker and EasyPress 2. Unlike iron-on (which of course we still love) the advanced technology in Cricut Infusible Ink transfer sheets ensure that it is peel and crack-proof, and the vibrancy will last wash after wash. If you add this Cricut Gift to your holiday stash be sure to check out all of the projects and ideas I have for creating t-shirts, coasters, and totes with Cricut Infusible Ink.
Cricut Gifts: Cricut Access
And finally, a must-have for any Cricut crafter is a Cricut Access Yearly Subscription. If you know someone who loves using their Cricut, whether they’re a novice or a beginner crafter, give the gift of a Cricut Access yearly subscription. Cricut Access is exactly as it sounds: access to over 100,000 images {with more added regularly}, hundreds of fonts, ready-to-make projects, plus discounts on everything Cricut. I love my subscription and love being able to find any image I need in Cricut Design Space without having to pay extra for it. The subscription allows you to use any of the fonts that have the green ‘a’ next to them, allowing so much more creativity!
