Designing a bedroom for a teenage girl is no easy task. Especially if you have a very picky and opinionated teenager like mine. Luckily this Teen Boho Bedroom Makeover with Cricut checks all the boxes for both of us!
My fiesty middle child has been begging for a room makeover because she is over the pink in her Bright and Bold bedroom. She wanted something more mature and I wanted a design that wouldn’t break the bank. This teen boho bedroom makeover was the perfect compromise and we both absolutely love how it turned out.
What is Boho Style
Boho style is defined as an eclectic blending of colors, patterns, fabrics, and outside-of-the-box decor. It’s all about repurposing the old, mixing meaningful objects, and creating a personal scene that reflects who you are.
In French, a bohemian refers to a person with artistic interests who disregards conventional standards of behavior. It’s the perfect way to describe my “free-spirited” daughter and with a few modern touches, we created a bedroom that reflects her own eclectic style.
How to Decorate Teen Boho Bedroom
Now that you’ve decided on the style it’s time to pull it all together. Whether you are going for soft neutrals or a cool vibe with bold colors start by choosing a color palette.
My daughter requested gray and navy as the colors for her room so we used those as the main colors for our color palette and added touches of pink to soften things up.
I created a moody vibe by painting a focal wall with Sherwin Williams Naval paint. I love this rich navy, it creates a calm relaxing space that’s grounded in nature. While this wall may be the focal point I think the DIY brush stoke wallpaper I created with my Cricut steals the show.
DIY Brush Stroke Wallpaper with Cricut
One of the things I saw over and over while looking for inspiration for our boho bedroom was bold prints on the wall. I loved the idea of painting brush strokes to create a patterned focal wall or adding a bold wallpaper. But, when it comes to decorating I have a fear of commitment, especially in a kid’s room.
I was able to get the expensive look of wallpaper without the cost or hassle. This DIY removable vinyl brush stroke wallpaper is such an easy way to transform a room. It makes a huge statement and is such a fun addition to this eclectic bedroom.
I used 3 rolls of Navy Cricut viny and my Cricut Joy to create a custom brush stroke wallpaper on one of the walls. It cost me less than $25 and took less than an hour to complete. I also really love that the design is easily removable and won’t damage my walls.
I simply peeled the vinyl off of the sheet and started sticking them to the wall in a random pattern. Because the design is supposed to be free form there is no need for transfer tape or measuring. Simply turn on some music and go to town!
Plan a Picture Perfect Gallery Wall
A gallery wall gives you a place to create a curated collection of art, photos, and meaningful pieces, without the space looking cluttered.
My daughter fell in love with this Elephant print she spotted at Hobby Lobby and we knew it needed a home in her new room. I decided to create a picture-perfect gallery wall around it by mixing photos and creating custom art with my Cricut.
I used the Be Kind SVG in Cricut Design Space and Cricut Vinyl to create a custom piece of art that adds a pop of color and a gentle reminder to be kind, stay brave and live happy. Feel free to mix and match modern and traditional pieces to create your picture-perfect eclectic gallery wall.
Focus on Function
Be sure to think about how your teen will use the space. We’ve discovered that our teens need a functional study space where they can work on homework. We bought a desk and hung IKEA shelves above it to give her functional space to display trophies, pictures, and souvenirs.
Above the desk, I added a gold memo board and whiteboard calendar to give her space to keep track of schedules, and due dates and hang up important papers and photos. Don’t forget to add comfortable seating and ample lighting to complete this functional workspace.
Create a Hangout Corner
This spot may be her favorite spot in the whole room. And it’s easy to see why this macrame swinging chair adds a fun addition to her bedroom. It’s a great spot to hang out and listen to music or curl up with a good book.
This room makeover was such a fun project and thanks to my Cricut I was able to personalize everything from art to wall decor to create the perfect teen boho bedroom. We turned her super girly pink bedroom into an eclectic tranquil space that makes it feel like you are on vacation in a cozy bungalow.
I’m slightly jealous of her stunning new teen boho bedroom makeover and have a feeling I may sneak up there during the day to curl up with a good book in that super fun hanging chair.
