Peace, love, and party, our teen is turning 15! There are so many good vibes at this Retro 70’s Groovy Teen Birthday Party.
Teens can be hard to please when it comes to birthday parties, but this 70s-inspired party checked all the boxes. Groovy 70s fashion, colorful flower arrangements, retro rainbow decor, and the hippest photo booth in town made this one extraordinary celebration!
I teamed up with Oriental Trading to create this fabulous birthday celebration for a sweet friend’s 15th birthday. Be sure to visit Oriental Trading Fun365 for all the product details and more photos.
70’s-Inspired Groovy Teen Party Ideas
There is no better way to celebrate turning 15 than taking a groovy journey back in time.
Bellbottom pants, flower power, retro roller skates, and peace signs are all the rage with teenage girls right now. So, what better way to celebrate a milestone birthday than with a 70s-inspired groovy party.
My daughter and her friends had the best time dressing up, enjoying a chic boho picnic-style dinner, and taking photos in the coolest VW Photo Bus to celebrate their friend’s birthday.
Renting a Retro Photo Bus for Teen Party
There is no better way to kick off a 70s-themed party than with the ultimate blast from the past, a vintage photo bus. Not only is it super cool, but it also provides the perfect backdrop for your celebration.
If there is one thing teen girls love, it’s taking pictures! I hired The Photo Bus DFW who provided hours of entertainment and laughs for our teen girls. The girls took a million photos and had fun posing with props for silly selfies.
Teenagers can be a tough crowd especially when it comes to parties. The last thing they want is for it to feel like a little kids’ birthday party, but I’ve found the key to a successful teen birthday party is having an activity for them to enjoy. Just like we did at my daughter’s Teen Boho Birthday Bash, where the girls learned how to create their own flower arrangements at the Flower Bar. The Photo Bus was the perfect activity for a teen party and I would highly recommend renting one, it was so much fun!
Retro Boho Inspired 70’s Decorations
I used the Retro Photo Bus as the focal point and backdrop for this 70s-inspired party. To give it even more pizzaz I created a balloon garland using a variety of peach and pink balloons from Oriental Trading. I attached the balloon garland to a small backdrop frame and placed it in front of the bus for a pop of color, and another fun photo op.
A low table and an eclectic grouping of rugs and pillows made the perfect spot for the girls to sit and enjoy dinner in between taking pictures. The stars of this groovy place setting were the Boho Rainbow party supplies from Oriental Trading. I used natural woven placemats and layered white dinner plates with pink plates and Boho Rainbow Dessert Plates. The Boho Rainbow Napkins were combined with gold utensils to complete each place setting. And, Boho Rainbow Cups looked super groovy with Disco Ball stir sticks.
The table decorations were kept fairly simple with a Boho macrame table runner, layered with yellow gauze table runners. I added a string of wooden beads down the length of the table and then add a bit of pizzaz with disco ball floral arrangements, and candles.
Birthday Party Activities for Teens
When it comes to teens it is key to have activities they can do, so they don’t all end up in the same room staring at their phones.
Flower Power
While the girls waited for their turn in the photo bus I had a “Create Your Own Disco Succulent” station. They each grabbed a disco ball cup, filled with soil and planted their succulents for a far-out party favor.
Or, set up a DIY Flower Power Crown station where each girl can create their own flower-inspired crown. These floral beauties would make the perfect prop for photos too!
Get Crafty
Create wood bead bracelets with custom phrases, these are so trendy with the teen girls right now and easy to make. I used this tutorial to show the girls how to make their own custom bracelets.
What’s not to love?! The bright, sunshine-inspired color palette of pink, peach, and yellow inspired lots of good vibes, and these teens had a fabulous time at this 70’s Groovy Teen Birthday Party!
