The summer and 4th of July are ideal for packing up a picnic to enjoy the sunshine outdoors. But, what do you do when the Texas temperatures soar well above 100 degrees and it’s just too hot to be outside? You plan a stylish picnic indoors, of course
4th of July Picnic Table Setting
Bring the eclectic ease of a simple picnic set-up indoors to create the ultimate 4th of July Picnic Table Setting.
A stylish table starts with laying a foundation and including different textures and layers. I started with a crisp white tablecloth and then added a red, white and blue table runner from Hobby Lobby. I added round woven Jute placemats to add more texture to the table. Textiles add softness to the table as well as decoration and color.
When it comes to holiday entertaining I like to find everyday items that I can use, rather than spending a bunch of money on pieces that will end up in storage for a year. The key to creating the perfect 4th of July table setting is to use color and pattern in a focused way. When I spotted these Floral and Paisley plates from Dolly Parton at Hobby Lobby I instantly knew these would be perfect for my 4th of July celebration!
They add a touch of southern charm and the best part is I’ll be able to use them all year long. Paired with the red and white gingham plates they create the perfect picnic vibe. Add even more color by layering a blue dessert plate on top of the gingham plates, either way, this place setting is
Mason jars are one of my favorite ways to serve drinks during the summer. Simply add a 4th of July-themed ribbon to each jar and use red and white striped paper straws to tie it into your theme.
To finish out the place setting add napkins and silverware. Napkins can add another layer of fabric, softness, color, and design to a table. When it comes to napkins I like to use a combination of patterns and styles. For the base layer, I actually used the floral kitchen towels from the new Dolly Parton line. I then layered these with blue star paper napkins and finished the look with disposable red cutlery.
4th of July Centerpiece
Creating the perfect centerpiece for your table setting doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. I picked up a variety of red and blue faux flowers from Hobby Lobby to create the perfect 4th of July centerpiece. Put them in a white case and add some fresh baby’s breath to complete the holiday color scheme.
I also picked up some inexpensive flowers from the grocery store to create smaller bouquets that I used to fill in gaps on the table. I love that this eclectic picnic party allows you to mix and match a variety of textures, colors, and styles to create the perfect centerpiece.
Picnic Style Serving Dishes
We may not be sitting in the grass on a picnic blanket for this celebration, but I wanted to keep everything casual and easy for this 4th of July picnic-inspired table setting.
I filled a white colander with cherries and used rustic berry baskets for strawberries and blueberries. A small cutting board is a perfect way to display and serve fresh slices of watermelon.
And these red, white and blue food baskets are great for serving a picnic classic, sandwiches. Simply line them with a patriotic napkin and fill them with chips and sandwiches. This also is a quick and easy way to serve guests.
Don’t forget the sweet treats! These mini white dessert stands were a fun way to serve an all-American classic, pie. I love that they also add a little bit of height to the table too.
Now that the table is set with the basics it’s time to add something unique or unexpected. It doesn’t have to be over the top; just some detail that takes your tablescape up a notch.
In this case I used small wooden stars and flag shaped sugar cookies and scattered them around the table. These also double as party favors for each guests to take home. I like sending friends home with something that will remind them of the laughter and memories made.
