I was delighted when my friend Elayne asked me to help plan her daughter’s 10th birthday celebration. She wanted a pool party, but wanted something more “beachy” that reminded her of their time spent living in Australia. We decided on a surf themed party with a pink, purple and turquoise color scheme.
I was so excited when I found Sprinkled with Paper’s Retro Surf Party collection. Jessica made a few changes to the package to incorporate the birthday girls color request and added some new items for me, like the custom lifeguard t-shirt design.
The backyard was transformed into a surfers paradise with a cool surf shack for the girls to “Hang 10” and enjoy an evening of swimming and fun. We transformed the wooden stand, that you’ve may have seen before here and here, into the surf shack with a new sign, hanging paper lanterns and a few surfboards. I placed the food table next to it and hung a grass table skirt from it to give it a more “beachy” feel.
The table served double duty and the dinner items (hot dogs, chips, and fruit) were placed on the table so the girls could help themselves and then we later moved all of the sweets out and put them on display.
The birthday girls mom wanted to make sure there were plenty of eyes to watch the girls while they were swimming so she asked several teenagers to act as lifeguards. We made each of them a little “thank you” gift with a custom t-shirt, flip flops, towel, and whistle.
The party guest went home with a basket full of goodies including a beach towel, flip flops they made and candy.
Happy Birthday to a super fun girl, thanks for letting me Hang 10!
