A little over a year ago we moved into a new house and much to my dismay it’s been a slow process of making it our home. Schedules are always jammed packed, work gets in the way and then there is the issue of agreeing with my spouse on which project to tackle first…and let’s not even discuss design dilemmas! But, I recently talked my sweet hubby into tackling the kids rooms and we are finally getting their rooms decorated. First up is a girls bedroom makeover for my darling middle child.
My kids rooms are all boring, bland and they lack personality. My kids are definitely not boring or bland and they are FULL of personality. I want their rooms to be a reflection of that. We decided to tackle our middle child’s room first. With an older sister she has spent most of her life getting hand-me downs and as a twin she feels like she is always having to share the spotlight. We decided to spruce up her space first so she could feel extra special. Before her room was painted with a basic tan that I’ve been wanting to get rid of since the day we moved in.
While she would have loved it if I painted her room pink, I decided to go with a more neutral color so that when she changes her mind I don’t have to repaint the walls. I used Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee and love it! Of course, if I’m being honest, I may have picked this color for her room because it’s the same color I want to repaint my living room…but I wanted to see what it would actually look like before I committed to it. 🙂
I’m not really a fan of painting, I especially hate all of the detail and trim work. It seems to take forever and I feel like I always have to go back to fix where the paint seeps through the tape. For this project I tried the FrogTape® Multi-surface painter’s tape. It’s a medium adhesion tape designed for use on cured painted walls, wood trim, glass and metal and will remove cleanly from most surfaces for up to 21 days and seven days in direct sunlight.
Our walls are really textured and I was really impressed with how well it adhered and even more impressed when I pulled the tape away! That’s because of the FrogTape® brand painter’s tape technology, and how it prevents paint from bleeding no matter what surface you’re using it on. What I loved most was the fact that once I peeled the tape off I didn’t have to go back and do any touch up work, the only thing left was smooth clean lines!
Once the room was painted with a bright new fresh coat of paint it was time to add in lots of color and personality, just like my sweet little girl. I painted several wooden frames and created a gallery wall for a bold statement in the room.
I’ve always believed that just like paint a great set of curtains can transform a room. It adds texture and makes the room feel cozy. I had made curtains to match her bedding and hung them, giving the room an instant face lift.
Since the walls aren’t bold I added lots of bold and colorful accents to brighten up the space, like a bright pink chair and bold colorful picture frames.
Her room is still a work in progress. Repainting her dresser and adding more artwork and pictures to the walls are at the top of the list, but for now I am so happy to see her bland and boring bedroom transformed into a bright, bold and wonderfully girly space where she can let her personality blossom and shine!
