When 2013 started I adopted “Make” as my word to help me find focus and “Make Things Happen” instead of sitting on the sidelines and waiting for things to just come along and happen. A few weeks ago I attended BlissDom 2013 and embraced the opportunity to fill my bucket and make things happen for ME!
For me this conference was an opportunity to learn, connect and discover. So often we as women give everything we have to others and forget to make our dreams and passions a priority. My blog has become a place where I can share my passion, a vehicle for pursuing my dreams and while it is a work in progress and I’m still trying to figure it all out, I know that I need to surround myself with other creative souls who “get it.”
I could easily ramble on for pages about my experience, but instead I’ll share my top 3 from BlissDom 2013. I wish I had taken better pictures and truly captured the experience, but I didn’t haul my camera around so most of my pics are from my phone.
1. Connections and Friendships are Priceless
There is something so gratifying about finally meeting people who’s work you have admired online for years. And then to finally meet them and realize they are even more AWESOME in person! All of the women I spent time with at Blissdom were passionate, motivated, fun and genuine. I loved connecting with them, listening to their struggles & their success stories and left motivated knowing that I’m not on this journey alone and there is a support system of people rooting for you.

2. Road to Awesome Takes 3 Steps
Jon Acuff presented a workshop “3 Stages of Every Awesome Idea” and it was eye opening to say the least! He was a captivating speaker and shared that every awesome idea has 3 stages: Imagine, Capture and Execute. Sounds easy right?!? And it should be, but we let fear get in the way, don’t let fear take over, be deliberate with your dreams.
“Focus on what you want, NOT the fear” – Shannon Litton
3. Knowledge + Passion = Profit
I studied marketing in college and even had a few jobs in the field, but trust me when I say Scott Stratten’s approach to marketing or “unmarketing” as he calls will light you on fire. I couldn’t write fast enough during his presentation. One of my favorite thoughts from him was: “Marketing is not a task it’s a verb.” And this one really struck a cord with me since lately I’ve been struggling to come up with content for my blog, “The best time to post is when you have something to say.”
“Your logo doesn’t matter, but your actions do.” – Scott Stratten
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg from what I took away from BlissDom 2013. Was it valuable? Words can’t describe what it’s like to connect with total strangers who share your same passion or how it feels sitting in a workshop and having an “aha moment.” Or the boost of confidence you get from getting dressed up and pampered (thanks NYX Cosmetics) or being able to sit down and chat with some of your favorite brands about opportunities. Yes, it was worth it to focus on me and take time to Make Things Happen!
I love it! It was great to meet you and your adorable family! Xoxo
