Let’s Create a Whimsical “Letters to Santa” Front Porch Display
The holidays are all about magic, memories, and a sprinkle of childhood wonder—and what better way to capture that spirit than with a Letters to Santa themed front porch? Whether you’re welcoming guests, neighbors, or even Santa himself, this festive setup transforms your home into a scene straight out of the North Pole.
A few years ago, I created a Letters to Santa-themed Christmas tree, and it remains one of my favorite trees I’ve ever designed and created. If you’re like me, you remember that tingling excitement of writing out your wish list and sending it off to the North Pole. Then begins the hoping, the wishing, the dreaming as you wait (usually not so patiently) for that magical moment when you run down the stairs to discover if the big man and his elves thought you were good enough to deserve at least a few of the things on your list.
So this year, I wanted to create that same magical feel with a whimsical Letters to Santa front porch.
Bring the Magic of Santa’s Mailbox to Your Doorstep
Start with a statement piece that’s sure to turn heads: an oversized Letters to Santa mailbox. Oriental Trading makes it easy to find one that perfectly matches your holiday aesthetic. Whether you prefer classic red and white or something a little more whimsical, a large mailbox instantly becomes the centerpiece of your porch display.
DIY Giant Letters and Envelopes for Extra Cheer
Add some playful personality to your porch by crafting giant DIY letters and envelopes addressed to Santa. Use foam board or posterboards to cut out oversized postcard and envelope shapes, then decorate them with glitter, ribbon, or festive markers. Stack them near the mailbox and hang them on your door to create the perfect holiday backdrop.
Will Santa Find You on the Nice List?
Santa’s making his list and checking it twice! I created a giant “Santa’s Nice List” by adding names of family and friends to an oversized engineer print that I had printed at my local print shop. I gave it a more vintage feel by tea-staining the list and then added red and white striped ribbon to the edges. I love how this oversized list turned out and think it adds to the whimsy and charm of the front porch.
Transform Your Porch into a Holiday Wonderland
Complete your display with twinkling lights on a snow-covered Christmas tree, pops of greenery, and giant oversized jingle bells. A few well-placed decorations—like Santa’s toy sack—will make your porch feel straight out of a holiday movie.
Make It Interactive
Up the charm of this fun Holiday front porch and encourage neighbors and friends to “mail” their letters to Santa in the giant oversized mailbox. Make it interactive and deliver Letters to Santa kits to your neighbors so they can write their letters and then mail them to the big guy.
Make your home the merriest stop on Santa’s route this year! With this festive setup, he’s sure to stop by your house first. Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, your Letters to Santa front porch will sleigh the season—and spread cheer to everyone who passes by.
