This summer forget the sugary sweets; here is a fun and fresh idea for serving fruit at your next event. These Ice Cream Cone Fruit Cups are great for pool parties, backyard BBQs and make the perfect afternoon snack.
Serve Fresh Fruit
I’ve learned that my kids will usually gobble up anything when it’s served in a fun and creative way and this treat is no exception. This summer serve fresh fruit in ice cream vessels for a creative and healthy alternative to all those sweets. The kids will love eating their fruit from a crunchy waffle cone or bowl. In fact, so much that they may even come back for seconds!
A Snack On the Go
Not only are these snacks fun, they are great for little hands to hold and you can eliminate the need for lots of plates and silverware. Kids can grab a cone and enjoy their fresh and fruity treat on the go.
These treats are so easy to make, and you can even prepare and make them ahead of time, just make sure your fruit is dry before putting it into the cones. Here is what you’ll need to make ice cream cone fruit cups:
- Fresh Fruit (strawberries, mango, pineapple, blueberries, kiwi and grapes)
- Whipped Topping
- Waffle Ice Cream Bowls, Waffle Ice Cream Cones
Directions
Cut your fruit in bite size pieces. Then fill the Waffle Ice Cream Bowls with the fresh fruit, add a dollop of whipped topping and garnish with a strawberry. Or for another creative idea serve the fruit in Waffle Ice Cream Cones. Even the pickiest kid won’t be able to refuse this sweet treat!
I originally shared this fresh and fruity snack idea on Chinet, June 2014.

What a colorful mix of fruits! Love this healthy dessert option!
Thank you Melanie, it is one of my kids favorite ways to enjoy fresh summer fruits!
Hi I am going to make these for my granddaughter sweet 16. The kids will love them but what is best way to serve them with them standing up?
hey came up with a great idea! I am going to take 2 heavy small and med size boxes, spray paint them then stack them. With a drill my husband is going to cut cone shaped circles and put finished cones in them. Boxes will then resemble a cake painted to match decorations with some spray glitter over paint.
Thanks for sharing, this sounds awesome! Be sure to take photos and tag us on social so we can see!
So yummy it’ll make you think you’re cheating your diet but it’s all fruit! Thanks for sharing.
Exactly Christine, you’ll feel like your having a yummy summer treat without all the guilt! Thanks for stopping by!
These look delicious! I’m thinking of making them for my daughter to bring to school to celebrate her birthday! Any idea how the bowls/cones would hold up for 4 hours of the fruit sitting in it before getting soggy?
I would recommend cutting the fruit the night before and putting it in a separate bowl in the fridge, where some of the natural juices will release. Then you can strain the fruit and place them in the cones, and they should hold up with the fruit. Naturally, there will still be some juices released from the fruit (especially from fruit like strawberries) but the cones shouldn’t get soggy.
Love this idea! It sounds like such a refreshing treat for summer! Thanks for sharing at my Creative Ways Link Party!

Thank you Nici, it is a crowd favorite at our house!
Very creative.
I am thinking about using your idea of the waffle bowls for serving at a rehearsal dinner; does the juice from the fruit cause the waffle to become soggy and fall apart?
Thanks
Hi! We used slotted spoons to drain most of the juice before putting them in the bowls. I wouldn’t recommend putting them in there until you are fairly close to being ready to serve them (about an hour prior)
I love making these cute fruit treats!
Oh my boys would love these!!
What a great idea for a healthier dessert!
These are definitely perfect for this summer!
These fruit cups are AWESOME! Definitely making these for the kiddos this summer.
