Start the new school year off with colorful supplies and organization with this DIY Colorful Painted Desk Organizer.
This school year looks and feels very different than it has in years past. For the first part of the school year, our kids will be doing online virtual learning at home. Even though they will be doing lots of work on the computer they still require school supplies for projects and assignments.
Like many of you, we had to get creative to create 3 separate “classrooms” where each of our kids can sit and do their work. And keep everything organized is essential to creating the ideal learning environment. This Colorful Painted Desk Organizer is the perfect accessory to help contain all of my daughter’s supplies.
I’ve had this bamboo desktop organizer stored away in my craft closet and decided it would be the perfect tool to help her keep her desk organized and everything easily in reach. But, it needed a makeover to match her colorful personality and style so I grabbed my favorite DecoArt paint and set to work.

How to Make a Colorful DIY Desk Organizer
Start by giving the desk organizer a primer coat with the white Americana acrylic paint.
Once the primer coat of paint dries you can paint the base layer with your favorite color. I used Peacock Teal, my favorite shade of aqua, to paint the top and sides of the desk organizer.
Set that aside and paint the drawers with coordinating colors. Don’t forget to paint the inside too, you want to see a fun pop of color when you open up the drawers to get your supplies.
Once the paint is dry on the organizer and the drawers it’s time to add the details. Use washi tape to tape off a geometric design on the front of the drawers. Use a small tipped paintbrush to paint inside the taped off lines. Don’t forget to add a touch of sparkle with the Galaxy Glitter paint.
Carefully remove the washi tape to reveal the painted design.
Organize your desk space or office by filling the drawers with your most-used school supplies. This little organizer is the perfect way to keep everything neat and tidy, and it’s so bright and cheerful you can’t help but feel motivated.
