This fall toast to good friends and celebrate with a Backyard Biergarten Oktoberfest Party. As the weather cools off entertaining outdoors is the perfect way to welcome the fall season.
Backyard Biergarten
Several years ago we took a trip to Germany and one of my favorite parts was hanging out at the Biergarten sitting at long tables outdoors and meeting new people. This fall party highlights the best of Germany’s traditional Oktoberfest with a distinct German flair right in your own backyard!
Each month our friends take turns hosting a themed dinner celebration and an Oktoberfest party seemed like the perfect theme for our September supper club.
With the help of Oriental Trading, I created my very own Backyard Biergarten with lots of Bavarian-inspired decorations, hearty wurst-centric food, and plenty of beer! Be sure to check out all of the products I used and these additional DIY projects including a DIY Pretzel Bar and a Cheers and Beers Drinking Game on Oriental Trading.
Tips to Host Your Own Backyard Biergarten Oktoberfest
One of the great things about our monthly supper club get-togethers is the fact that it encourages us to try new things and think outside the traditional potluck fare. I had so much fun planning this German-inspired Oktoberfest, and a good time was definitely had by all. With Oktoberfest just around the corner, I thought I would share my top tips for hosting your own Backyard Biergarten Oktoberfest party.
Wilkommen Your Guests
While you may not have enough space to pitch a traditional Oktoberfest tent, let the guest know they have come to the right place by featuring blue and white checkered designs of the Bavarian flag. Set up long tables in rows, because after all a beer garden is all about mingling, and encourage everyone to grab a drink and get to know their new friends.
Deck The Beer Hall
The whole idea of a beer garden is to socialize so be sure you create lots of different areas where guest can mix and mingle. Create lots of seating areas, plan for several drink stations and create a self-serve DIY Pretzel Bar all with a German flair.
All About the Bier & Cheer
You can’t have a backyard Biergarten without authentic brews. Toast your friends and family with a variety of German beers. Consider setting up a beer taste testing so everyone can sample each variety and find their favorites.
Guten Appetit!
Make sure you prep a hearty spread to keep the party going all night long. Set up a DIY Pretzel Bar where guest can nosh on warm pretzels throughout the evening. Classic German bratwurst pair perfectly with sauerkraut, warm German potato salad, and cheddar-beer fondue. Don’t forget a sweet treat like Dark Chocolate Pretzel Bark to finish out the meal.
Pipe In Some Polka
Don’t forget about the music. Add some authenticity to the mix and pipe in some oompah polka music from the Oktoberfest station. Encourage guests to get silly with a Bavarian-themed photo booth and props.
Prost!
Sit back, relax, and make memories with friends. Raise a glass and say Prost! to a fabulous fall party with friends!
