Stargazing Date Night Tips
Whether you are getting cozy and looking up in your backyard or you’re driving to the best local stargazing spot, here are our top stargazing tips to make your evening extraordinary. From what you need to bring, to where you need to go, and so much more, we’ve put together a list of everything you need to make your Stargazing Date Night one for the books!
Schedule Your Star Search
With its long, balmy nights, late summer is the perfect time to plan a stargazing date night. Under the right conditions, you can see thousands of stars sprinkled across the night sky.
Look at the calendar and pick the perfect night (choose a night when the moon is in a crescent or gibbous phase and a cloudless night sky.) Create a sparkly invitation with cardstock and the Cricut Foil Transfer System and invite your sweetie to meet you under the stars.
Pick the Perfect Spot
No matter where you live it’s important to find a prime spot to view the stars. Ideally, you want to find a dark spot with a clear sky away from city lights. Consider taking a drive to the country to get away from the town and street lights for the best views.
If you can’t escape to the country you can still stargaze right from your own backyard. Just be sure to turn off all the lights inside and outside your home so it’s completely dark
Once you’ve picked the perfect spot be sure to make it extra cozy with blankets and pillows. Create custom stargazing pillows with Cricut Infusible Ink and your Cricut Maker to make it extra special.
Know What to Look For
You’ve found a dark spot to view the stars, now you just need to know what the heck to look for! From constellations, planets, and shooting stars there are plenty of things to spot in the night sky, but knowing what you are looking at is key.
Create shimmery DIY Stargazing Constellation Cards with your Cricut Maker and foil transfer sheets. These constellation cards are a fun way to help you locate constellations, like the Big Dipper in the night sky.
I used black cardstock and Cricut gold foil transfer sheets and constellation SVGs to create our stargazing guide. First time using the Cricut Foil Transfer System, be sure to check out this How to Use Cricut Foil Transfer System tutorial.
Punch holes in the top left corner of each constellation card. Secure all of the cards together with a jump ring or small carabiner clip.
For an even more in-depth look at what is up in the sky grab your phone and download a stargazing app like SkyView. This app has the ability to identify planets, satellites, and constellations by simply pointing it at the sky to help you know exactly what you’re looking at.
Pack Celestial Treats
Don’t forget to pack some star-studded treats to enjoy while you are gazing at the night sky. Star-shaped sandwiches, Galatic Space Cupcakes, and Shooting Star Popcorn mix are some fun and easy ideas to pack for a stargazing picnic.
I used blue food-safe bags and my Cricut to create custom Shooting Star Snack bags for our celestial popcorn. These fun treat bags are easy to pack ahead of time with treats that are perfect for your stargazing picnic.
