The holiday entertaining season as arrived! Whether you are planning an elegant holiday party or a simple family dinner this cozy red and black Buffalo Plaid holiday dinner party is the perfect way to share warm winter wishes with family and friends.
During the holidays we spend lots of time gathered around the table making memories with family and friends. I wanted to create a rustic, yet glam tablescape that invites people to gather together and linger longer.
Red and Black Buffalo Check Tablescape
It all starts with the plates, in my opinion. I found these beautiful buffalo plaid plates at Walmart and they were the inspiration for my rustic and glam table setting.
I layered the red and black buffalo check on top of shiny gold plates and added black cloth napkins in between the plates to create an elegant layer. When it comes to entertaining I want things to be stylish, easy and convenient so I can spend more time with my guests. There is a wide variety of stylish paper tableware that can be found at Walmart and Bed Bath and Beyond, and you can use Offray ribbon and paper tableware to make your holiday extra special.
Even though I want to keep things simple that doesn’t mean that I don’t want them to feel extra special. One of the ways you can make things feel extra special is by tying the gold utensils together with coordinating buffalo plaid ribbon.
Whether I am hosting a formal get together for friends or a casual holiday dinner for the family I still love incorporating place cards. It makes guests feel extra special and it’s a great way to change things up and get the conversation flowing.
DIY Rustic Wooden Reindeer Decorations
Decorating the table for special occasions is one of my favorite things. Once you’ve found the perfect tableware it’s time to start thinking about the rest of the decorations. One of my most prized holiday decorations is a wooden reindeer that has been in our family for over 35 years. I decided to make a few mini DIY rustic wooden reindeer decorations for my dinner party.
And the best part is these cute little reindeer can also double as party favors for guests to take home and enjoy year after year at their own holiday celebrations!
How to Make Wooden Reindeer
- 2-3 Birch Logs
- 1 Wooden Dowel
- Wood Glue
- Offray Buffalo Plaid Ribbon
- Small Twigs
- Small Pinecones
- Hot Glue Gun
Start by cutting the birch logs with a saw, you will cut a large piece about 8″ and the smaller piece around 4″.
Next, cut the wooden dowel to make the legs and the neck. I cut the leg pieces around 3″ long. Drill holes in the bottom of the body and insert them, use wood glue to secure them.
Gather small twigs from your yard for the antlers. Use a hot glue gun to attach them to the top of the reindeer’s head. Then hot glue a mini pinecone on for the tail.
Finally, add a touch of glam to your rustic reindeer with a buffalo plaid ribbon.
Mad for Plaid Holiday Table Decorations
Now that you’ve made some adorable rustic reindeer for your table it’s time to fill in space with rustic and glam elements. Create height with a tall black lantern and DIY buffalo plaid and burlap Christmas trees.
Add natural elements by stacking round wood chargers to display the perfect charcuterie board or treats.
Don’t be afraid to use unexpected items, like a ribbon to make your tablescape pop. I love the wide selection of Offray ribbon that you can find at Walmart. Not only can you use it to wrap all of your holiday gifts, but it also makes the perfect component to holiday crafts, and adds a touch of glam when looped down the table.
I added even more glam to this rustic plaid table setting with gold leaf ornaments tied with mini ribbons. It’s such an easy and fun way to add a pop of sparkle to this beautiful tablescape.
