Hosting a BBQ is a great way to gather family and friends during the warm summer months and catch up on each others’ lives. My grandmother was coming to Texas for a visit so we decided to have a family BBQ at my house.
To make your family BBQ one to remember integrate some fun and special touches into your gathering.
Start with the decorations. You don’t have to wait for birthday parties to create a fun display for your food. It was a bazillion degrees outside so I set up a table inside and used my custom backdrop frame with a red sheet for the background. I added one of my fabric banners for a little pizzazz. I added my picnic basket to hold bags of chips, cookies and fruit.
Keep it Simple. An essential part of the BBQ is the food, but it doesn’t need to be complicated. We decided to grill hot dogs and brats. I included simple sides of grilled corn, pasta salad, chips and fresh fruit. I filled small mason jars with lemonade for a refreshing drink to help wash it all down.
Enjoy each others’ company. The beauty of casual entertaining is that you can sit back, relax and enjoy your guest. We enjoyed catching up with my grandma (and even surprising her with a little birthday celebration!) while the kids had fun playing outside. You can also consider adding a few activities or games to keep everyone busy and entertained, but no matter what you do enjoy spending time with your loved ones.
Do you have any ideas for fun ways to add pizzazz to a BBQ? What’s your favorite dish you make or bring to BBQs?
