Easter egg hunts are one of our family’s favorite Easter traditions. A few years ago I decided to mix things up and filled our eggs with Easter Bunny Bucks instead of candy.
Everyone loves hunting for Easter eggs, but I quickly realized that we didn’t need all that candy. So instead of filling our eggs with candy, I created Easter Bunny Bucks and the Hippity Hoppity General Store.
The first year I did this it was such a hit that we have been doing it every year for the past 3 years. My kids love racing around looking for the eggs and counting up their money. And it’s always fun to shop for goodies with their hard-earned bunny bucks.
The Easter store is filled with items that I know the kids will want and use. I filled our store with things like beach towels, bubbles, specialty candy, and plush toys. Each item has a price and the kids can spend their bunny bucks to get what they want.
How to Use Easter Bunny Bucks
Start by printing out the free printable for the Easter Bunny Bucks.
Use scissors or a paper trimmer and cut out the bunny bucks.
Fill plastic eggs with the bunny bucks.
Hide the plastic eggs and send kids out to hunt for the Easter eggs.
Count your bunny bucks and head to the Hippity Hoppity General Store to spend them.
Tips for Using Bunny Bucks
Collect items for your General Store throughout the year, especially when things are on sale. You can find lots of great items to include in your store from places like Oriental Trading or the Dollar Store.
Create multiple sections of the store with a variety of price points. For example, I typically have a $10, $5, $2 and $1 section of our store.
To make things fair I let each kid buy one item from each price range on their first trip. Once everyone has had a turn if they still have bunny bucks to spend they can go back and select whatever they want.
It’s interesting to watch my kids and see what each of them spend their money on. For example, my oldest daughter likes to spend her money on the bigger ticket items, like a new beach towel. While my youngest daughter is all about the candy and stuffed animals.
I loved this idea and tried it on my five grandkids, who all loved it and asked that I do it for next year! Now I will be on the lookout for items throughout the year. Thanks Mariah!
Exactly what I was looking for!!!! My son has severe food allergies and this totally eliminates the worry about what’s in his eggs vs. letting the other kids still have the candy they love (at a safe distance from their brother!) Thank you!!
