New Year’s Eve is always an exciting time filled with celebration and anticipation for the year ahead. If you’re planning a family-friendly evening in, creating a DIY New Year’s Eve Ball Drop craft is a fun and interactive way to bring the iconic Times Square tradition into your home!
Inspired by the famous Ball Drop on Times Square in New York City, this DIY is a great addition to any New Year’s Eve party. You can use it as a centerpiece, use it at your front door to greet your guests with a sparkly welcome, or countdown to midnight.
I collaborated with FloraCraft to use their giant foam balls to create festive holiday decor. This New Year’s Eve Ball Drop is a fun way to countdown to an exciting new year. This entertaining project is easy to make and involves lots of glitter, which is a win-win in my books!
And with our own DIY New Years Eve Ball drop we won’t even miss the cold or the crowds trying to get a glimpse of the famous NYE Times Square symbol.
DIY New Year’s Eve Ball Drop Craft
If you haven’t started planning your NYE party, don’t worry this project can be completed in under 30 minutes.
What You’ll Need:
- 10″ FloraCraft Foam Ball
- Silver Spray Paint
- Foam Spray Glue
- Gold and Silver Glitter
- 1/4″ Wooden Dowel
- Square Wood Base
- Wood Glue
Step 1: Use the wood dowel and carefully push it all the way through the center of the foam ball.
Step 2: Remove the dowel and spray paint the foam ball, wooden dowel, and square wood base with the silver spray paint.
Step 3: Fill a large disposable tray with lots and lots of glitter. Use the spray adhesive to spray a section of the foam ball and then roll the ball in the glitter. Keep working until the entire ball is covered in glitter.
Step 4: Use a 1/4″ wood bit to drill a hole in the wooden base. Put a dab of wood glue on the bottom of the wooden dowel and insert it into the base. Let dry overnight.
I love how this DIY New Year’s Eve Ball Drop sparkles and think it will be so fun for the kids on NYE. I think I may even use a permanent marker and mark each of the hours during our party until midnight. Every hour we can let one of the kids drop the ball to the next line to help count us down to midnight.
