This year we are staying in for New Years Eve, but I can’t help myself and started planning a small get together with friends. Last year we spent a cozy night in as a family, so this year I thought it would be fun to ring in the new year with our friends. I thought it would be fun to create our very own DIY New Years Eve Ball Drop to count down to 2017.
I feel like 2016 flew by at warp speed. It was such a busy and exciting year for us, and I can’t wait to see what 2017 has in store for us. This month FloraCraft challenged us to use giant foam balls to create festive holiday decor. I thought this New Years Eve Ball Drop would be a fun way to countdown to an exciting new year. This entertaining project is super easy to make and involves lots of glitter, which is a win-win in my books!
If you haven’t already started planning your NYE party like I have, don’t worry this project can be completed in under 30 minutes.
What You’ll Need:
- 10″ FloraCraft Foam Ball
- Silver Spray Paint
- Foam Spray Glue
- Gold and Silver Glitter
- 1/4″ Wooden Dowel
- Square Wood Base
- Wood Glue
Use the wood dowel and carefully push it all the way through the center of the foam ball.
Remove the dowel and spray paint the foam ball, wooden dowel and square wood base with the silver spray paint.
Fill a large disposable tray with lots and lots of glitter. Use the spray adhesive and spray a section of the foam ball and then roll the ball in the glitter. Keep working until the entire ball has been covered in glitter.
Use a 1/4″ wood bit to drill a hole in the wooden base. Put a dab of wood glue on the bottom of the wooden dowel and insert it into the base. Let dry overnight.
I love how this DIY New Years Eve Ball Drop sparkles and think it will be so fun for the kids on NYE. I think I may even use a permanent marker and mark each of the hours during our party until midnight. Every hour we can let one of the kids drop the ball to the next line to help count us down to midnight.
I can’t wait to have all of our favorite people over to celebrate the end of an epic year and ring in the start of another awesome one!
