One of the BEST parts about being a crafter this time of year is making handmade gifts for those we love, which is why I’m excited to partner with Cricut in a Secret DIY Santa Gift Exchange and bring you this easy DIY Wooden Deer Silhouette Ornament.
For this particular gift exchange we were assigned another blogger to come up with a special diy just for them that involved using my favorite craft tool, the Cricut Explore. I decided to make a wooden deer silhouette ornament for my giftee, Jessica from Everyday Party Magazine.
I was excited to see I drew Jessica’s name because I love her site, she has such great style and shares lots of party inspiration. You all know how much I believe in creating extraordinary moments and memories and Jessica does too. She created Everyday Party Magazine to help families recreate memorable parties with a reasonable budget helping you celebrate YOUR everyday moments! While I was browsing her site I stumbled on this adorable Christmas Cocoa Bar and it inspired me to create a rustic ornament for the Secret DIY Santa Gift Exchange.
Like most of my projects this is an easy one. Here are the supplies you’ll need to make your own:
- Cricut Explorer
- Wooden Ornament (mine is from Michaels)
- Cider Vinegar Steel Wool Stain
- Red, White and Brown Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Ribbon
I used the same technique that I used to make my DIY Distressed Wooden Chalkboard to stain the natural wood ornament I picked up from Michaels. Lightly brush the cider vinegar steel wool stain on the wooden ornament to give it a beautiful rustic distressed look.
I knew Jessica was a fan of deer from her Christmas Cocoa Bar post so I decided to use my favorite deer silhouette to make her ornament. I’ve used this deer to make lots of fun holiday decor including my Oh Deer Coffee Mugs, Deer Friend Cookie gift and free printable Christmas Gift Tags. I used my Cricut Explore to design the ornament, I love how easy it is to make personalized projects using Design Space.
Use the transfer tape to adhere the vinyl to the wooden ornament. Gently peel back to revel your design.
Tie a bow with coordinating ribbon and attach to the top of the ornament with a glue gun.
I would say this is another deer project success, wouldn’t you agree? I’m boxing this ornament up, along with a few other goodies and it will soon be on it’s way to Jessica, I hope she likes it as much as I do!
