Thanksgiving is time of reflection, gratitude and celebrating with family and friends. Lately we have been talking a lot with our kids about being grateful and thankful for the blessings we have. Several months ago I decided to turn these lessons of gratitude into a play date to celebrate Thanksgiving and the many things we are thankful for, including our friends.
Inspiration for parties can come from anywhere and for this particular party it came from one of my daughter’s dresses from Gymboree. For our Whoo’s Thankful for You play date I asked Piggy Bank Parties to updated their Lil’ Hoots collection to match my inspiration and fall themed party.
For our play date I set-up a small treat table on my pretty dresser, which I also used at our Just Bee-Cause Tea Party. We had owl s’mores, mini pecan pies, cupcakes and owl lollipops. The brilliant team over at Piggy Bank Parties created a new lollipop box shaped like an owl, they were the hit of the party and I wish I had made 2-3 for each guest!
I made wooden owls and placed them in eco-chic blumebox for decorations. I used tree branched to make a “thankful tree” for the center of the table . I not only wanted to spend a fun afternoon with our friends, but also teach the kids about being thankful for our blessings. I printed out blank party circles, punched holes in them and tied twine around them. Then I had the kids write things that they are thankful for on them and then we hung them on our “thankful tree.”
Entertaining the kids at parties is one of my favorite parts of party planning. For our craft we made owl masks and photo frames. The activities were my favorite part and the kids had lots of fun tossing bean bags into Lil’ Hoots, playing “Pin the Party Hat” on the owl and they eventually ended up raking leaves and jumping in them…it was such a fun afternoon!
Our Whoo’s Thankful for You play date was a hoot! We are have so many things to be grateful for and I during this time of Thanksgiving I want to say “THANK YOU” to each of you for following, commenting and being a part of Giggles Galore!
