A dad is a daughter’s first love and Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate this special bond. So grab your poodle skirts and let’s throw it back to a simpler time with a rockin’ & rollin’ Sock Hop Valentine’s Day Party.
One of my girls’ favorite things around Valentine’s Day was going to the themed Daddy Daughter dance in our community. Sadly due to COVID restrictions this year they won’t be able to continue on the tradition. But, that got my wheels turning and I decided we could create our own special dance and date with dad, right here in our home!
Sock Hop Valentine’s Day Party Ideas
This fun, retr0-themed Sock Hop is perfect for a small Valentine’s Day celebration. This theme would also be super fun for birthday parties or school events. This retro party evokes all kinds of nostalgia for me and creates special new memories and moments for my girls. I fondly remember the 50s themed parties our church hosted and recently stumbled on a photo of me and my dad at one of these parties. My mom had made me the cutest pink satin poodle skirt with a fluffy poodle on it, and I spent the night doing the swing and jitterbug with my dad. I loved how special I felt in those moments and wanted to recreate that for my girls.
How to Host a Daddy Daughter Dance at Home
DIY 50s Soda Shop
Hop back to the 50s and create your own Soda Shop where the girls and dads can fill up on classic dinner dishes before the dance begins. My girls loved filling up on classic dinner dishes like corn dogs, hamburgers, and fries. But, I’d say their favorite part was my take on an old fashioned soda bar. I created a DIY Italian Soda Bar where they could create their own delicious sodas with just a few pumps of flavored syrup.
Sweet treats are a must for any party and these delicious Coke Float Cupcakes looked awesome displayed on the DIY Retro Record Cupcake Stand I made with supplies from Oriental Trading.
Dress Up in Retro 50s
Part of the fun of going to a Daddy Daughter dance is the chance to dress up. Go all in and get into the theme with a cute poodle skirt for the girls and slicked back hair and jeans for dad.
Dance the Night Away
I held dance lessons so the girls could learn the hand jive, jitterbug, and of course the swing with their favorite dance partner. We also had a hula hoop contest and a daddy and daughter photo op so the girls will always remember this special night with dad for years to come.
If you are looking for ways to create memories with your kids this Valentine’s Day, this Sock Hop Valentine’s Day Party is nifty! What are you waiting for, it’s time to shake, rattle, and roll!
