My sister is a kindergarten teacher so I know first hand how much work and effort go into getting the classroom ready for the start of a new school year. I admire teachers and think they have one of the toughest jobs in the world. Which is why I like to give my kids teachers tokens of appreciation all throughout the year. I know first day of school gifts are seen by some as overkill or “sucking up” but I believe it’s a great way to say “thank you” and start the year. I put together this very easy Meet the Teacher Gift Idea after a conversation I had with my sister one afternoon.
I was asking her what type of gift I should take for my twins kindergarten teachers and trying to find out what teachers really want. She listed off a few things like school supplies, hand sanitizer and favorite treats, but then she paused and said “Honestly, Meet the Teacher night is such a long day for us and the first week of school is always tough. It would be nice not to have to go home to fix dinner every night after long days at school!” Light bulbs went off. Why not create a cute little card with a gift card to the teacher’s favorite place to eat!
I created this fun little 5×7 card, with a blank spot in the middle so a gift card can be attached. Download our Meet The Teacher “Dinner Is Our Treat” printable.
I went online to our schools website and printed of the “Teacher’s Favorite Things” list for each of my kids teachers. Then I went and picked up a gift card for $10 to their favorite place to eat. Attach the gift card to the center of the 5×7 printable with glue dots or double sided tape.
Use a cellophane bag, clothespins, twine and a gift tag to put it all together.
Take your super easy, practical and thoughtful gift with you to Meet the Teacher and let your student introduce themselves to their new teacher.
While I recognize that giving the teacher a gift isn’t necessary, it feels good to give a little something back to the extraordinary people who help teach and educate my children!
Do you give your teacher a gift at Meet the Teacher or on the first day of school?
