Hey friends! I’m back with another fun project, a Home State Burlap Canvas, for the July Michaels Makers campaign and an exclusive sneak peak at some of the new Raw Bar products they will be carrying in stores nationwide August 8th.
We recently moved into a new house and I’ve finally unpacked all the boxes and now I’m slowly working on putting the finishing touches in each room. My home office is one of those rooms that needs a fresh new makeover and since I spend lots of time in there I wanted to spruce it up with my own personal touch.
I love all of the Home State art prints that are floating around the web and decided to create my own version with the new Raw Bar burlap canvas. This square canvas is made with a thick wooden base so it can sit on my desk along with a bunch of other pretty things.
I’m one of those crafters who loves instant gratification, so this project was awesome. It took me less than 30 minutes to complete it from start to finish.
To start I cut out an image of my home state, Texas on my Cricut with vinyl. I used the negative space as a template and carefully placed it on the burlap canvas. Smooth out any wrinkles and make sure it is securely stuck to the canvas.
With a small flat brush dab white paint all around the state border. Then use a thicker brush or sponge brush to paint the rest of the state. Let paint dry for 5-10 minutes, it will dry fairly quickly on the burlap fabric, and then remove the vinyl.
I wanted to personalize it so I sewed on a little heart button where I live.
I love my personalized Burlap Home State Canvas and think it looks right at home on my desk with the pretty desktop calendar from A Blissful Nest.
There are some fun new products coming soon to Michaels, see those cork board letters…don’t they look cool! Michaels created the Raw Bar products because customers like you and me kept requesting raw surfaces that are unfinished and easily craft-able. The new line of products is made of or accessorized by materials inspired by nature. Surfaces and textures include burlap, cork, chalk board, wood, metal and canvas and will be available August 8 at stores nationwide.
What product would you use to personalize your space?
