When I was a kid, my mom created extraordinary moments for all sorts of occasions, but the simplest ones turned out to be some of my fondest memories. As a mom I want to do the same thing for my kids, and I want to make sure they know just how special and extraordinary they are. I hope to do just that with our new extra special breakfast tradition.
Nowadays it is easy to get caught up in the “Pinterest Perfection” of things, and let’s face it – most of us don’t always have time to make, create or bake those over the top projects. The reality of it is things don’t have to be over-the-top or perfect to be impactful or extraordinary. They just have to come from the heart!
Our family loves our rare lazy weekend mornings because it means the house will soon be filled with the sweet aroma of cinnamon rolls baking. Our favorites are the warm, gooey Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls. They are perfect for our extra special breakfast tradition because they are super easy to make and the possibilities for fun are endless. You can mold them into different shapes, color the icing, add extra toppings to make them special for any occasion, just like we did with our Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls. Because I want my kids to know how much they are loved I decided to shape them into hearts for this special breakfast.
Unroll the Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls and then gently roll each side back up until they meet in the middle. Pinch the bottom to create the tip of the heart. Place them in the 350 degree oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Take them out of the oven and spread the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls.
Of course they are perfect just like that, but we are celebrating our EXTRA special kids and that calls for sprinkles!
My favorite part of our new extra special breakfast tradition is the special detail of the “You Are Extra Special Today Because” sign. With three kids, sometimes it’s a challenge to find special one-on-one time with each one. Which is exactly why we created this little tradition. One weekend per month, we bring one of our kids breakfast in bed and spend a few precious moments listening to them, reading or playing a game. It’s our way of letting them know just how extraordinary they are and it doesn’t require tons of planning, money or time, which in my book makes it a win-win!
I created a free printable for my 5×7 picture frame and put the “You Are Extra Special Today Because” sign inside the frame and replaced the glass.
I used a dry erase marker to write a special note to my daughter for her extra special breakfast.
I put the frame on my serving tray along with the heart-shaped cinnamon roll, fresh fruit and a glass of OJ. It’s the little details that make this super simple breakfast extra special and a tradition our whole family loves!
