During the holidays we jump at any chance we can get to spread a little cheer and joy to our friends and neighbors. Which is why when I first heard about the tradition of “BOO’ing” your neighbors I was all over it. My kids were still itty bitty and there was no such thing as sneaking off quietly, but I insisted that we start this tradition so that it would become a regular part of our Halloween celebration.
Every year we try to come up with a themed gift basket to match the adorable free printables that are available. This year I came across the MARS and Wrigley “BOO It Forward” printables and loved the concept of passing on a little spooky Halloween cheer to our neighbors and set out to create these easy and adorable DIY Halloween Bat BOO Kits to surprise our friends with.
Again if you have been following Giggles Galore for a while you know how much we love Halloween! Many years ago in the BHG Halloween Magazine (long before you could find millions of ideas on Pinterest) I stumbled on their vampire bats and the cutest party using them. I created my own version of the party several years ago and after seeing the “BOO It Forward” printables I knew exactly what type of gift basket we would be creating for our “BOO” gift baskets, an adorable vampire bat!
Again this is another one of those incredibly easy projects that your kids will love helping you create. First you’ll need to gather your supplies.
- Black Gift Basket
- Black Card Stock
- Orange and Purple Card Stock
- Red Card Stock
- White Card Stock
- 1” and 1/2” circle punch
- Google Eyes
- Hot Glue Gun
- MARS Mixed Minis
- MARS and Wrigley BOO It Forward Printable
First, trace your bat wings on the black card stock. I used black glitter card stock to match my black glittery containers, so I drew my wing on the back side. Cut out the wings and set aside.
Next, use your 1” and ½” circle punch to punch out the base of the eyes on your colored cardstock.
Cut out a mouth using the red card stock. And then cut out two triangle shaped teeth on the white card stock.
Use the hot glue gun to attach the eyes, mouth and fangs to the front of the black container.
Next, slightly bend the wings at the base and use the hot glue gun to attach them to the sides of the black container.
Finally, fill the container with mini Halloween A&W, 7UP® or Sunkist® and chocolate candy. I stocked up on goodies at Walmart for our BOO kits and for handing out to trick or treaters.
Print out the “BOO It Forward” printables and include it with your DIY Bat Boo Kit so your neighbors can join in on the fun.
- Cut out this “We’ve been BOO’d sign.
- Fold the “You’ve been BOO’d” greeting card (page 2) and tape openings together.
- Include the card and sign when gifting BOO bundles.
Deliver your super adorable and festive Halloween Bat Boo Kits to your favorite neighbors and friends. And don’t forget to enter the BOO It Forward Sweepstakes for more Halloween surprises and fun!
