Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around. Look at my Pinwheel and see what I’ve found. Pinwheel, pinwheel, where have you been? I’m kind of obsessed with pinwheels. There is just something about those little spinning things that reminds me of spring and childhood. They remind me of carefree, playful afternoons while a warm breeze gently blows all around. I think they are such a whimsical and fun way to add a little flair to any occasion including your home decor. And, you will love how easy it is to create colorful spring pinwheel decorations to add a pop of color to you home.
I was recently browsing the aisle at my local Tuesday Morning and stumbled on a paper pinwheel punch board from We R Memory Keepers. I thought it looked like fun and my creative wheels started turning. Before I knew it, I had found lots of other creative goodies in the craft aisle and headed home to whip up my fun, colorful spring pinwheel decorations.
Supplies:
- Paper Pinwheel Punch Board
- Patterned Scrapbook Paper
- Stripped Paper Straws
- 10×10 Hanging Wood Pallet
- Paint
- Vinyl
- Glue Stick
- Brads
Step 1:
Use a glue stick to glue two pieces of patterned scrapbook paper together. Using the guide in the pinwheel punch board, trim the paper to the appropriate size.
Step 2:
Place the paper in the corner of the pinwheel punch board and firmly punch a hole in each corner.
Step 3:
Next, line up the holes with the size of your paper on the punch board. Use the paper cutter on the board to make the cuts in the pinwheel.
Step 4:
Begin folding the corners of the pinwheel towards the center hole.
Step 5:
Use a brad to secure the pieces in place.
Step 6:
Now that you have all of your pinwheels made you can attach them to striped paper straws, a decorative banner or a cute little sign.
Step 7:
I painted a 10×10 wood pallet sign with my favorite color, it will be the perfect pop of color for my spring decor.
I hot glued one of the colorful paper pinwheels to the top corner and cut out the word “hello” in white vinyl with my Cricut. You could add any saying to this fun little hanging sign, I also considered using “Hello Spring” and “Welcome.”
I always love adding a pop of color to my traditionally neutral decor as the season’s change. I thought it would be fun to give my office a little makeover with all of these colorful and whimsical pinwheels. I also made a paper pennant banner with the patterned scrapbook paper and pinwheels.
I love that I can always find treasures and unique items at Tuesday Morning. Whether I am there to pick up new pieces for outdoor entertaining, gifts, or DIY decor I always know I will find unique items at great prices. It’s kind of like a treasure hunt, you never know what you will find, but it’s always worth it in the end! I am in love with my colorful new decorations and think it’s the perfect way to welcome spring and would even make cute party decor.
Head to your local Tuesday Morning to see what unique treasures you find, and make your own colorful spring pinwheel decorations!
