Tonight we participated in one of my favorite Halloween traditions, the annual Trunk or Treat at the church. I look forward to coming up with a fun new theme for our trunk each year. Previous themes include a Double, Double Toil & Trouble, Black Hat Bake Shoppe and Gypsy Caravan. But, this year’s CarnEVIL Trunk or Treat theme is officially my favorite! Come one, come all and let’s take a look at my favorite Halloween tradition.
When it comes to Trunk or Treating I like to think beyond the trunk of our car. I teamed up with my friends at Oriental Trading to create the ultimate CarnEVIL experience for the kids. This year we had games, prizes and of course lots of “rotten candy” for them to enjoy. Anyone can just stand there and pass out candy, but it’s way more fun when you get involved and have something fun for the kids. The kids lined up to take a turn playing carnival games like Spin a Prize and Disk Drop Game.
Everyone is a winner at the CarnEVIL! My kids helped me pre-package a punch of goodie bags, that I hung on my prize board (aka a vintage crib mattress.) . I also had a huge bucket full of other prizes for when we ran out of those. I know that my kids get way too much candy this time of year, so I especially love the idea of handing out some non-candy goodies at the Trunk or Treat.
Ladies and gentlemen step right up to the CarnEVIL Rotten Candy Stand. The kids loved being able to step up to the Rotten Candy Stand and pick their favorite treat. We had everything from creepy crawly lollipops to poison popcorn. I had lots of little goodie bags for them to scoop their treats into and my mom was helping fill bags of popcorn and keeping the candy jars stocked. I had big plans to have a cotton candy machine because I think that would have been so much fun, but life got a little hectic and I forgot to order one and when I finally remembered it was too late.
I’ve always been a big fan of the carnival theme (don’t miss my twin’s carnival birthday or this circus themed party), but this CarnEVIL trunk or treat takes it to a whole new level of fun! I think it’s safe to say we had another successful trunk or treat and made lots of extraordinary memories. Do you trunk or treat where you live? I’d love to hear your favorite theme, or suggestions for what you think we should do next year…I think it’s going to be hard to top this year!
