Whenever you go to the circus or carnival there is always a huge sign to welcome you to all of the fun. I knew I wanted a big sign to welcome everyone to our twins Birthday Carnival Party, but because our party was outside at a park I didn’t really have a way to hang anything. That’s when I decided to use a giant wooden picture frame from Cut It Out.
I love the whimsical shape of these Cut It Out frames and knew that the large 16 x 20 Chandler frame would be perfect for our Birthday Carnival Welcome Sign.
This is an easy project, trust me. I started and completed this project in less than an hour the same day of our party. Yep, that’s right I started this just hours before our party started because, well I’m crazy like that.
Supplies:
- 16 x 20 Chandler Cut It Out Frame
- Americana White Chalky Finish Paint
- Red Craft Paint
- Paint Brush
- 1″ Round Sponge Brush
I painted a coat of the white chalky paint on the frame and let it dry. I found that the chalk paint was a great primer to help evenly cover the wooden frame and because it dries so quickly I was able to move to the next step of adding the red without having to wait forever for the paint to dry.
I painted two coats of red, letting each coat dry throughout. Once the red paint was dry I took the 1″ round sponge brush and dipped it in the white chalk paint to add polka dots to my frame. This was an easy way to add a little bit of whimsy that ties in well with our carnival theme.
Next, I took the Come One, Come All sign created by Lauren Haddox Designs to the printer and had them blow it up to fit in my 16 x 20 frame. I love how festive this polka dot frame makes our welcome sign look.
Parker and Piper had a blast welcoming their friends to their party with this fun Birthday Carnival Welcome Sign. And, unlike hanging a paper sign that would have just ended up in the trash after the party this festive frame is going to have a new home in our playroom.
