Did you ever watch The Munsters as a kid? I remember watching the black and white reruns of this unusual American family of benign monsters and we even catch old reruns from time to time and watch them with our kids. But my husband is the real fan! A few years ago he stumbled on a website for The Munster Mansion (don’t ask me why he was searching for The Munster’s house, I quit asking questions a long time ago.) 🙂 And to his surprise an actual, real-live replica of The Munster’s house existed and it was right down the road from us in Waxahachie, TX. I recently had the opportunity to take a sneak peek tour of the house and being the awesome wife that I am I brought him along with me.
The Munster Mansion is a private residence owned by Charles and Sandra McKee who built their home in Waxahachie as close as possible to the exact specifications of the the popular 1960’s sitcom. Since the show itself was filmed on set and there were no blueprints, the McKees watched all 70 episodes of the TV series, sometimes multiple times, to create their nearly perfect replica.
Once a year the McKees open their home for a Home Tour & Costume Party, a quirky family friendly event with food, games, prizes and more. You can even meet Pat Priest (Marilyn Munster) who will be signing autographs and taking photos. This year the home tour and costume party will be held October 24th & 25th from 7 pm until midnight. Event admittance is free but there is a very modest charge for food and a few of the attractions . Tickets to tour the mansion itself are sold separately and are $20 for adults and $12 for children 12 & under, cash only. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Waxahachie Senior Citizens Center. For more information visit The Munster Mansion website, http://www.munstermansion.com/
If you are in the area I highly recommend taking your family out to this event! My husband and I had a blast touring it and I can’t get over the impeccable detail of each and every room in the house, but my favorite part was Eddie’s pet dragon Spot that lives under the stairs…yep they even have him!
And best of all my husband finally got to visit The Munster Mansion and check it off his bucket list!
The Musters bring back so much precious memories whan I was growing up In New York.
I remember, watching the program back when I was a kid in the Late 60s and early 70s.
That’s when Television was fun to watch. Three of the castors have since died . But, I will always
remember them, as best castors in Hollywood. One day, I would like to vist the Muster Mancion
and relive those wonderfull moments. Those days will never come back.
