Curious, sweet, wild, sassy, caring, sensitive, compassionate independent, easy going…do any of these words describe the special people in your life? What special people am I talking about? Children, of course. Chance are if you have children you think they are pretty amazing, am I right? But when is the last time you told them that? If you are anything like me you know your kids are amazing, incredible, special little people but in the hustle and bustle of our busy lives I forget to tell them as often as I should.
So we made Incredible Kid Day plates as part of our Incredible Kid Day Celebration with the intention to use them all year to honor, acknowledge and encourage tell our kids just how amazing and incredible we think they are! The idea is that we will use these plates throughout the year and bring them out when they do incredible things or need encouragement.
You will need a plain white ceramic plate (mine are from the dollar store) and permanent markers.
I wrote “You’re An Amazing Kid Because…” with a permanent marker on the outer edge of the plate.
The blank space at the bottom is where you can write a custom message with a dry erase marker to praise them for good behavior or acknowledge their incredible personality or success.
I let each kid customize their own plate by drawing a picture in the middle of the plate.

Once they finished their masterpiece we put them in the oven and baked them at 450 for 30 minutes to permanently set the marker. Note: I put the plates in cold, left them in while it pre-heated, baked for 30 minutes and then turned the oven off and let them cool in the oven. I’ve only hand washed them and so far it hasn’t come off.
Now, with our Incredible Kid Day Plates we can focus a little more on remembering to tell our kids throughout the year just how incredible they are!

[…] Even though we were just having pizza for dinner (it’s been a little hectic around here) I still wanted it to feel like a fancy celebration. I set the table with the good stuff and added some sparkle with confetti, a fancy table runner and festive cupcakes. At each place setting the kids found a gold metal and a card with a personal message about why they are incredible. The blank white plates were a special project we customized and made into Incredible Kid Day Plates. […]
