Get ready to dive deep into the sea where you’ll find a Haunted Mermaid Cove Trunk or Treat. A combination of mystical and frightening skeleton creatures from the high sea bring what lies beneath the ocean to the surface for a hauntingly terrific Halloween Trunk or Treat.
Our family has been participating in community Trunk-or-treat events for years, and it’s one of my favorite Halloween activities. Over the past few years, my over-the-top Halloween decor has even caught the attention of editors and has been published in Better Homes and Garden, Rachel Ray Magazine, and Country Living.
This year, we’re transforming our trunk into a mystical underwater wonderland filled with mysterious marine creatures, sparkling treasures, and haunted creatures from deep dark seas.
What is a Trunk or Treat?
A “trunk or treat” is a community event where participants decorate the trunks of their cars and distribute candy to children. Typically held in safe, central locations such as school parking lots or church grounds, this event offers a fun and secure alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating.
How Trunk or Treat Works
Participants park their vehicles in a designated area and open their decorated trunks, featuring Halloween themes and decorations. Children walk from car to car, collecting candy and enjoying the creative decorations.
Of course, you can keep things simple, but choosing a theme and transforming your trunk into a show-stopping and engaging trunk is not only fun it’s easier than you think!
Haunted Mermaid Trunk or Treat Decorations
This Haunted Mermaid Cove gives a nod to the mermaids lurking deep below protecting the long-lost pirate’s treasure. We found everything we needed to create our mystical underwater world including a life-size mermaid skeleton, floating jellyfish and pirate’s treasure at Oriental Trading.
Start by covering the trunk with an underwater scene, we used an ocean-themed plastic tablecloth. And then add elements like crepe paper seaweed and hanging Jellyfish paper lanterns that will swing in the breeze.
Layer the area in front of the trunk with a life-size mermaid skeleton hidden among the Stand Up Coral cutouts, blue ocean, fishing nets, and creepy black cloth. Add a custom haunted Mermaid Cove sign and you are all set and ready to welcome trick-or-treaters to your spooky underwater adventure.
We love to incorporate interactive elements that coordinate with our theme. For example, we set up a treasure box and filled it with gold coins, skeleton mermaid toys, jeweled treasures, and candy for the kids to dig through and choose.
