We don’t do big gifts for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, but I always try to do something special for my hubby to show him how much he is appreciated. There were lots of really cute ideas out in blogland, but most of the ones I came across centered around ties. My husband wears a tie to work everyday and hates them! I wanted to do something that would reflect who he is and what he loves, and then inspiration struck.
I was looking for a birthday card in my card stash and found this party invitation I made in 2006 for a neighborhood BBQ we hosted. Perfect! I decided to plan his gift around this invitation and something he loves, Grillin’.
I took the invitation apart, scanned it and used SCAL to create a cut file for my Cricut. I cut out the aprons to make a banner and then cut out letters with the Storybook cartridge.
I got impatient and decided the banner would just say “Daddy” instead of “Happy Father’s Day”
The apron has pockets and just like the invitation I made a little insert to slip in the pocket. I wrote “Why I Love My Daddy” on the cards and the kids told me their favorite things about their daddy.
For the gift I used a Starbucks drink caddy and added grillin’ supplies – spice rubs, beef and chicken marinades, meat thermometers, and bamboo skewers. I picked up a magazine with some yummy grilling recipes to go with it.
I spray painted the caddy brown and used coordinating paper to dress it up. I covered up the labels and added a few touches, like the little apron on the bottles. I also made one for my dad with slightly different stuff.
Finally, the family was getting together for a BBQ to celebrate and I decided to use some of the same elements to tie everything together.
I absolutely love using the Starbucks drinks containers for parties, they are much more fun than paper cups! I dressed these up with little aprons and party circles, cute!
How cute are these little hamburgers?
I made these little hamburger cookies and put them on a platter with store bought cupcakes for dessert.
We had a simple dinner with hamburgers, baked beans, chips & dip and fresh veggies from the garden. It was all delicious and as always lots of fun to spend time with my family.
Happy Father’s Day, especially to my amazing dad and my husband (who is a terrific father)!
P.S. I know it’s too late for this year, but if you are interested in making your own BBQ aprons for Father’s Day or even BBQ parties I would be happy to share the SVG file, just leave a comment and make sure to include an email address. And as always, if you do make some I would love to see your projects!
I stumbled across this post today and it's just perfect. My husbands birthday is this month and he has asked for a new grill. I would love to use your printables to make an extra little kit to go along with it using a drink carrier. Super cute ideas. Thanks! Jenette jensean@cox.net
