Twelve years ago we joined a group of friends from college at what’s become one of our favorite summer vacation spots, The Frio River. For the past twelve years we’ve been making the trip with that same group of friends and it’s morphed from a group of carefree college kids to a group of proud parents looking to make memories with their families. We love this trip, our kids love this trip and we love the tradition of Floatin’ the Frio every summer!
One of the great things about this vacation is being able to let the kids run free in the great outdoors. My kids love playing in the river, picking out the perfect river stones and taking hikes through the wooded area searching for Big Foot. I love watching their carefree attitudes as they unplug from city life. But spending all that time in the great outdoors can also bring a few pesky little problems, particularly itchy little bug bites that can quickly ruin a good time.
My youngest daughter is a mosquito magnet, she can be outside for .2 seconds and be covered in little red welts that itch for days. Last year I made the mistake of forgetting our bug spray and we all payed for it. This year I came prepared with , ready to Fend off Funsuckers…those pesky little bloodsucking insects weren’t going to ruin our good time this year!
I packed a variety of products to make sure the entire family could enjoy a safe and happy summer vacation at the Frio. Since we do spend so much time outdoors I wanted to create an easy, accessible and portable way to keep our bug protection close at hand. A friend had delivered a gift in a small metal bucket a few days earlier which gave me the idea to use it for our “Fend off Funsuckers” bug protection station. We could keep the bucket on the picnic table outside or pick it up and take it with us to the river, either way it gave us peace of mind and protection while spending time outdoors.
Weather they were outside playing or floating down the river I knew they were protected from tiny little bugs that could potentially ruin all of our Frio River fun. Less sticky, less smelly and in a variety of convenient products the repellent made it easy for the kids to always be ready for some outdoor fun.
Looking back at pictures from years past, it’s plain to see these little kiddos are growing up all too fast and it’s moments and traditions like the Frio that make this mama’s heart so happy. Knowing that they were protected with a quality repellent left me free to sit back and enjoy watching them play with friends at this special place that’s become an annual tradition we love.
Don’t let those pesky bloodsucking insects ruin your fun this summer, with you can focus more on building traditions and creating memories than worrying about bug bites.
