The summer season is all about livin’ easy, days spent poolside, backyard BBQs, block parties, and vacation getaways. With all the fun summer activities, it’s safe to say you’ll find yourself with an invitation to a few summer parties this season.
The next time you’re invited to a summer soiree why not surprise your hostess with this easy summer Lemonade Hostess Gift? This simple and creative gift is a great way to say thank you for a wonderful evening.
What is a Hostess Gift
By definition, a hostess gift is something a host or hostess would use in the course of entertaining. It could be used for the party you are attending or something that can be used for a future party, or even something to enjoy with their own family.
While a hostess gift isn’t really obligatory, it’s certainly a nice gesture to bring a small gift with you when you have been invited to dinner or a party.
When to Take a Hostess Gift
Not sure if you should take a hostess gift. Here are a few tips to help you decide if you should arrive with a gift for your host.
If the host has asked you to bring a side dish there is no need to bring an additional gift. However, it is important to note that you shouldn’t bring a side dish to dinner unless you have been asked. Typically the host has planned out the menu and your surprise addition could be more of a hassle than help as she scrambles to fit it into her plan.
If you haven’t been asked to bring anything, it’s a good idea to show up with something to thank your host. It could be something as simple as a bottle of wine or a pretty set of napkins or hand towels. During the summer I love taking this Lemonade Hostess Gift because it’s simple and a fun way to enjoy the flavors of the summer.
If you received a last-minute invitation there is no need to panic about taking a gift. Rather you can take or send something a day or two later as a token of your thanks. Or write a handwritten note and mail it, everyone loves getting a thoughtful note in the mail.
Not sure how much to spend on a hostess gift? I typically like to use this rule of thumb: If you were going out to dinner (instead of a dinner party) the amount you would typically spend on an entree is about how much you should spend on a gift.
