Flowers are blooming and spring is in the air. I’m giving my house a fresh new makeover and adding a touch of spring to brighten things up. These Decorative Floral Easter Eggs are the bright and colorful and the perfect spring touch for my neutral farmhouse mantel.
My DIY shiplap wall in my living room is one of my favorite things about my house, but I’m still trying to figure out how to decorate our mantel. I fell in love with my mantel at the Farmhouse Metallic Decor at Christmas time, but once the holiday was over it felt very bare and boring. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with it for a while and the other day I decided it needed a pop of color, just like my Christmas mantel. These Decorative Floral Easter Eggs are the perfect DIY craft and a great way to customize my mantel decor.
This month FloraCraft® challenged me to create Spring decor with the FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® foam eggs. I decided to paint mine with my new favorite DecoArt paint colors and add a touch of spring with beautiful blooms found at Michaels. This was a simple project with just a few steps that you can create in afternoon.
What You Will Need:
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Eggs 3″, 4″, 5″ & 6″
- DecoArt Acrylic Paint – Cotton Candy, Coral, Laguna, and Sea Breeze
- FloraCraft® Smooth Finish
- Floral Stems
- Bamboo Skewers
- Paint Brush
- Fine Sandpaper
- Glue Gun
Step 1:
Start by covering your foam eggs with the Smooth Finish. Make sure you apply a thick layer and smooth it out with a knife or spatula as much as possible. Here is a tip: Insert the bamboo skewer into the bottom of the egg. This will help you as you apply the smooth finish and paint them. Stick the bamboo stick into a foam block to let the eggs dry.
Step 2:
Once the smooth finish has dried, use a piece of fine sandpaper to smooth out the rough edges and create a smooth surface for painting.
Step 3:
Use your favorite paint colors to paint and customize your eggs. I am currently loving the new DecoArt acrylic paint colors Cotton Candy, Coral, Laguna and Sea Breeze. I recently used them in my daughter’s room makeover and to create this hand painted word art canvas. I’m so smitten with this color combination!
Step 4:
Once the paint is dry it is time to add your floral blooms to your eggs. Pull the blooms off the stem and trim with wire cutters, if necessary.
Step 5:
Use a glue gun to attach the flowers to the top of the egg. Continue adding flowers and foliage so it cascades beautifully down the colorful eggs.
Display in a bunch to create a beautiful, unique and colorful spring decor. I added these beauties to my very neutral farmhouse mantel and love the pop of color it adds to my living room. I dug out my springtime moss banner, added some painted ombre wooden banners to tie in all the colors, and hung it from the vintage window from my husband’s grandmother’s farm. I think my colorful Decorative Floral Easter Eggs are just what my mantel needed. What do you think? Do you like to add color to your home decor or do you like to keep things neutral?
