A friend of mine recently discovered a pick your own peach orchard (thanks Jenny) and since I love the idea of picking your own fruit I planned a little road trip with my sweet peaches. Last year we went to a blueberry/blackberry patch and not only did the kids have a blast, we made lots of delicious desserts and just ran out of jam.
We woke up early and hit headed out to the peach orchard to pick sweet, juicy peaches.
The kids wanted to be lifted up so they could get the ones at the very top.
It was hot out and not everyone was interested in participating.
It’s important to taste them to make sure they are just right.
It didn’t take long to fill up two buckets
We cooled off with peach ice cream and ice cold lemonade
We plan to make jam with most of them, but I made sure to save plenty to make some tasty desserts. Today I made Brown Sugar-Cinnamon Peach Pie and homemade vanilla bean ice cream.
This was my first attempt at a homemade pie and it was gooooood! Lots of work, but worth it.
We had lots of fun picking peaches and plan to enjoy lots of yummy recipes from the fruits of our labor.
Hi, are you in TX? If so, can you give me the name of the peach farm you went to? Or do you know if they have a website? Thanks! Diana in Austin.
That pie looks absolutely delicious! And the whole idea of a visit to a fruit farm is so wonderful for the kids. Thanks for sharing!
