Forget the flowers, this year give the moms in your life personalized Mother’s Day Gifts they will love. This colorful DIY monogrammed jewelry dish is the perfect accessory and catchall tray for all of mom’s jewelry.
I love a good accessory, especially if it is personalized. After all, we are in the south and every southern girl knows everything is better with a monogram. Every time I wear my Large Initial Monogram Letter necklace I get tons of compliments. So this year I decided to grab a few for the special moms on my list for Mother’s Day.
I thought it would also be fun to include a personalized monogrammed jewelry dish to go with each necklace. I know I’m always taking my rings and jewelry off and misplacing them, so I love having a cute little tray to keep everything contained.
These colorful dishes might be small, but they are incredibly practical and pretty! All you need are a few supplies and 30 minutes to create your own personalized Mother’s Day gifts.
Supplies for DIY Jewelry Dish
I used DecoArt Multi-Surface Satin paint to create these abstract jewelry dishes. This premium paint is self-sealing, so no primer or varnish is required and it provides excellent coverage in one to two coats on almost any surface. The special formula is designed to brush out smoothly and once fully cured, creates a durable, hard finish that is highly resistant to cleaning chemicals.
I found a bunch of small white trinket dishes on clearance and used those to create each personalized jewelry dish. However, if you can’t find plain white trays you can create your own from concrete or clay.
Here is a list of the supplies you will need.
- Small White Tray or Dish
- DecoArt Multi-Surface Satin Paint
- Paint Brushes
- DecoArt Glass Paint Marker – Gold
- DecoArt Stencil Ring – Sophisticated
How to Make Monogrammed Jewelry Dish
In less than 30 minutes you can create a cute and functional jewelry dish.
Start by choosing one of the lighter colors from your paint selection. Paint an abstract brushstroke with that color on opposite ends of the tray.
Next, choose another color and slightly overlap it with the existing brushstroke pattern you have already painted. Remember, there is no need to perfect. That’s the beauty of this colorful abstract art!
Continue to layer brushstrokes, lines, and dots to create a colorful abstract pattern on your tray.
Let the paint dry and then use one of the letter stencils from the DecoArt Stencil Ring to create your monogram. I love that each individual character is on its own sheet and secured with a detachable jump ring. It makes it easier and much more convenient to properly place your stencil for smaller projects like this.
Finally, use the gold Glass Paint Maker to rim the edge of your tray in gold.
Personalized Mother’s Day Gifts
Create personalized Mother’s Day Gifts for each of the special “moms” in your life. Whether you are creating a DIY monogrammed jewelry dish for your own mom, or for your best friend, this colorful gift is a great way to show them how much they are appreciated and loved.
Who doesn’t love getting jewelry as a special gift (hint, hint hubby)? Especially when it’s accompanied by such a colorful and fun way to display it!

Hello,
I would like to know where you found the little white dish? I have looked all over and cannot find anything. I am from Southern California, out in the desert. I just love this project and would like to make my friends some.
My name is Rhoda Hoffman

Hi Rhoda, I found mine at Michaels. The larger one was a plain white ceramic tray, the other two trays had designs on them, but I spray-painted them white with a white primer. I let that dry overnight and then used the DecoArt paint to paint on the design. You can also look on Amazon or even IKEA to see if they have any plain white ceramic jewelry trays.
