I’m not quite ready for summer to end, but reality is looming and a new school year is almost here. One of the best parts of a new school year is shopping for back to school supplies and new clothes. Everybody wants to have the latest and greatest back to school trends and it’s even more fun to create your own, like these painted back to school shoes.
Turn ordinary canvas shoes into fun kawaii inspired shoes that are perfect for back to school. My oldest daughter has recently gotten into the kawaii characters and when I suggested we get a jump start on school shopping she requested some cute and funky shoes. I knew finding exactly what she wanted was either going to be a challenge or super expensive so I suggested we make our own funky girls painted back to school shoes.
From neons & neutrals, to bag charms & kawaii cuteness, Michaels has everything you need to head out Back To School in the latest trends. We took a trip to our local Michaels to get our supplies and within 30 minutes we had a cute and easy pair of kawaii inspired back to school shoes.
What You Will Need:
- Black Canvas Shoes
- White Fabric Paint
- Pink Fabric Paint
- Paint Brush
- Piece of Chalk
Since my daughter was helping me with this project and wanted to paint the shoes I used a piece of chalk to sketch the design on the shoes to make it easier for her to paint.
We used white and pink fabric paint to paint our shoes. This soft fabric ink can be brushed, sponged, stenciled or stamped onto fabrics.
Next, we used a small paint brush to paint over the chalkboard outline and create our kawaii cat.
Let the paint dry for 24 hours and then heat set with a dry iron.
Lace up your kawaii cat kicks and head back to school in style.
