Spring is here and that means that the days are getting longer, the weather is warmer and everything is in bloom. It’s the ideal time of year to do one of my favorite things, pack a picnic and dine alfresco. Here are 8 tips to help you plan a picture-perfect spring picnic!
Picnics can be everything from simple to elaborate. So invite your besties to the park and plan to spend the day filled with delicious food, refreshing lemonade, and unforgettable moments.
How to Plan a Picture-Perfect Picnic
1. Find a Picture-Perfect Spot
The location of your picnic is probably the most important thing you need to take into consideration. Whether you are planning to take your picnic to a local park or field of flowers finding the perfect spot is key. Things you may want to look for are locations that have shade trees, spring flowers, and aren’t too overcrowded.
2. Create Comfort with Blankets & Pillows
Picnic blankets are essential to a successful spring picnic. Not only do they protect your food from the elements, but they also set the tone for your outdoor dining room. Toss in a few waterproof pillows to make it extra cozy and even more relaxing.
3. Pack Your Picnic Basket Wisely
A cute wicker picnic basket will help create those picture-perfect picnic vibes. However, when it comes to packing your food you need to pack your basket wisely. Pack all of your serving items and any food that doesn’t need to be kept cold in your cute wicker basket.
Pack a separate cooler with fresh fruit, cheese, and deli items to create a simple charcuterie board. Don’t forget the ice packs to keep everything cold.
4. Plan the Perfect Picnic Spread
When it comes to selecting the perfect picnic spread, think of things that are easy to share and eat. Think finger foods, a charcuterie board, fresh vegetables and fruits, and mini sandwiches. Make the food ahead of time, or pick up meat, cheese, and pasta salads from your favorite deli.
Don’t forget something sweet to end the meal. My daughter made a delicious chocolate torte that was the perfect way to end our delicious picnic.
5. Drink Up
Whenever you are planning an outdoor activity the first rule is to stay hydrated. Be sure to pack lots of water. But, keep the fun flowing and mix things up with mocktails, sparkling lemonade, or flavored seltzers.
6. Bring a Blooming Boquet
Nothing says “take my photo” like a gorgeous bundle of fresh flowers. Buy a bouquet at the farmer’s market on your way to the park, or pick an assortment of wildflowers when you get there. Then, display them in a vase to add a sweet and colorful pop of color.
7. Bring a Friend
Picnics are better with friends. What better way to catch up with your girlfriends than to head outdoors to a beautiful spot with delicious food? Take advantage of the wide-open space and arrange a nature walk or enjoy some outdoor activities together.
8. Capture the Moment
Take advantage of your beautiful surroundings and the balmy spring weather and be sure to capture all of the picture-perfect moments. From the candid to the posed you’ll be glad you snapped a few pictures to remember this extraordinary afternoon!
