Every year around the beginning of September I start thinking about this year’s theme for our Halloween porch and parties. I love Halloween and it’s one of those holidays that I go all out for. Every corner of our house, from the front porch to the kitchen, gets a spooky makeover this time of year. For our theme this year, we are welcoming guest and accepting reservations at the Leeson’s Dead & Breakfast Inn. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing some of the creative details, like this haunted hotel DIY luggage cart, that have helped bring our Dead & Breakfast Inn to life.
Our spooky concierge will be extending hospitality and helping all of the ghosts and goblins with their luggage as they arrive at our haunted inn. To make his job easier I’ve created these super easy and inexpensive haunted hotel DIY luggage cart. Whether you are decorating your front porch or throwing a haunted hotel themed dinner party this simple prop is perfect for Halloween.
What You Will Need:
- Plywood
- 3/4″ PVC pipe
- 3/4″ Dowel Rod (make sure your PVC pipe will fit over it)
- 4 swivel casters
- Hula hoop
- Gold spray paint
- 4 Screws
- Drill
First, let me start off by saying I was in a hurry and forgot to take step-by-step pictures of this project. But, once it was finished it and saw how awesome it looked with our Dead & Breakfast Inn I figured some of you may want to know how to recreate it. So I recreated the step-by-step process with a few photos.
Step 1:
Start by cutting a piece of plywood into a 2 ft x 2 ft square, spray paint it black.
Step 2:
Once the paint has dried attach the swivel casters to each corner of your board.
Step 3:
I cut four 3″ pieces of the dowel rod. Put one in each corner of the board and screw it in from the bottom. This piece is what will help keep your poles stable.
Step 4:
Cut four pieces of 3/4″ PVC pipe. Since my skeleton was only 5″ feet tall I cut the pipe 50″ tall so that once it was all assembled it was proportionate to my skeleton. You can adjust the height of these if you need it shorter or taller. Spray paint the pipes gold and let dry.
Step 5:
Spray paint a plastic hula hoop gold. Once the paint is dry cut the hula hoop in half.
Step 6:
Add a small screw to the top of each PVC pipe pole. This is what the top dome part, the hula hoop, will sit on to stay in place. Put one end of the hula hoop in the pole and cross it to the opposite site, repeat with the second part of the hula hoop to complete your luggage cart.
Step 7:
Add vintage suitcases and a spooky skeleton concierge.
I love how my haunted hotel luggage cart turned out and think it will be the perfect accessory for all of our Dead & Breakfast Inn themed Halloween decor. This was a super easy project that cost me less than $10. I already had most of the supplies in my garage so I only spent money to purchase the swivel wheels and the hula hoop. But, you should be able to make this for under $25.
This Halloween friends and trick-or-treaters are going to be dying to get a reservation at our spooktacular Dead & Breakfast Inn. Of course, our concierge will help you check-in….but you may never leave!
