The kids are back in school and we are all finally adjusting to the routine of waking up early, homework and after school activities. After a fairly unstructured summer of lazy pool days, traveling and enjoying lots of popsicles it’s nice to have a routine and schedule. We are celebrating a new school year in the most delicious way with Back to School Chalkboard Brownies.
Every day when my kids come home from school they have tasks and responsibilities that they need to check off their after school checklist. This helps keep our busy schedules on track, while still allowing them some down time to play or relax. Plus, it keeps me from having to constantly remind them what they need to be doing. At the top of that checklist is snack time, because every single day my kids come home from school starving. While most days I encourage them to grab a piece of fruit or another healthy option occasionally I like to surprise them with a super special and fun treat like these back to school chalkboard brownies.
These fun treats are a great way to surprise your kids after school or they can be a special after school activity that you can make with them. My younger daughter loves baking and when she needs a little extra TLC I like to have her help me whip up a special treat in the kitchen. Pillsbury™ helps make any baking occasion a celebration without the hassle of making everything from scratch. I like to keep my pantry stocked with a few baking essentials like Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix and Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge Frosting, for afternoons where we could all use a special treat!
As a kid, math was never my favorite subject, but my mom would make it fun by baking with me. I’m trying to do the same thing with my daughter, so while she helps pour and measure we practice math skills like measurements, fractions, and conversions.
What You Will Need:
- Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix
- Pillsbury Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge Frosting
- Caramel Candy
- White Chocolate Melting Wafers
- School Themed Sugar Toppers
Start by following the directions on the back of the brownie mix box. My daughter loves helping so I let her add the mix, oil, water and eggs.
Stir the brownie batter until all the lumps are gone.
Pour the brownie mixture into a 9 x 13 pan, bake on 350 for 25-30 minutes.
While the brownies are baking spend some time working on homework or complete some fun baking worksheets, like the ones we received from Pillsbury.
Once the brownies are done and have cooled it’s time to turn them from ordinary brownies into extraordinary back-to-school chalkboard brownies. Cut the brownies into rectangle pieces.
Use the Pillsbury Pastry Bag Chocolate Fudge Frosting to frost the top of the brownie.
Put a few squares of caramel candy in the microwave for 5-10 seconds to soften them. Remove from the microwave and carefully roll the caramel until you have a long thin piece of candy. Wrap the caramel rope around the edge of the brownie.
Use a piping bag with melted white chocolate to “write” on your brownies. You can write math equations, create spelling words or even write your kids names.
The only part that’s left in this equation is to enjoy your special treat together!
Whether you are baking these brownies as a special after school surprise or spending time creating memories baking together with your kids these back to school chalkboard brownies are sure to make your afternoon extraordinary!
