Do you ever feel like life is speeding by at a breakneck speed? With three active kids, a small business and constantly busy schedules it sometimes feels like it’s impossible to slow down. I recently had the chance to escape the hustle and bustle for a farm to table dinner experience with Uptown Farmhouse.
With such hectic schedules, I am always looking for experiences that allow us to unplug and reconnect with loved ones. Squeezing in a date night is often a challenge, but I am always looking for fun and creative ideas. I knew the moment I first heard about Uptown Farmhouse that it was a must try experience. If you are a Dallas local, or you are planning a visit to DFW, you absolutely have to add this experience to your must-do list!
Uptown Farmhouse was created a few years ago by Amy Kushnir and Chef Garth Blackburn to bring community members together to enjoy a meal, a story and an experience. Uptown Farmhouse is where the city meets the country in food, home, lifestyle, and events. Where real people gather to savor delicious food and soak up great conversations with new and old friends. I met Amy a few years ago when I did a few TV segments on one of my local stations and started following her on Instagram. Ever since I’ve been following along on her new adventure and dreaming of someday sitting at this table. We were finally able to make it work with our busy schedules and I am so glad we did, it was an unforgettable experience.
I am a huge fan of the farm to table concept, and while we have had the pleasure of dining in several restaurants that cater to this new trend nothing has come close to this recent experience. Amy and Chef Garth have planned and executed such an incredible event that is sure to be a memorable experience you won’t soon forget.
The dinners are hosted monthly out in the beautiful countryside behind the couple’s home. Everyone gathers together to dine at one long table under the stars.
As guest arrive they gather in the “baby barn” for appetizers and mingling. A generous spread of local meats, cheeses, and spreads greet the guest. Seasonal specialties from the chef like stuffed mushrooms and cauliflower shooters round out the delicious spread.
We then found our way to our seats and introduced ourselves to our table mates. Before the evening was over these strangers had become friends. It was such a fun experience to bond with complete strangers over good food, interesting conversations, and lots of laughter.
Amy and Chef Garth have worked with farmers and ranchers across Texas to bring good food, with a story, to the table. The generously portioned meals include five courses, beginning with appetizers and ending with a sweet treat.
The menu, at each place setting, included details about where the local ingredients came from so it the dinner was as informative as it was delicious. I loved that Chef Garth also came out to talk about each course we were being served and he even provided tips about how we can prepare the same dishes in our own homes. The roasted sweet potato and butternut squash soup was amazing and I can’t wait to recreate it at home!
It happened to be an unusually cold weekend when we attended, but I honestly think that added to the charm of the entire experience. Wrapped in blankets, and armed with hand warmers, that Amy generously provided, it was a cozy evening dining under the stars with the dim glow of candlelight.
If you too long to escape city life and relax at the farm, Uptown Farmhouse is the ultimate experience where the city meets the country, where unforgettable food is served, memories are made and friendships are formed. We had the best time on our date night adventure in the country with Uptown Farmhouse. I highly recommend you contact Amy at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details and to reserve a seat at their next farm to table dinner. Maybe we will see you there!
