This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Cricut. The opinions and text are all mine.
I’m sure you have heard the expression, “It is far better to give than it is to receive” It’s one I heard frequently as a kid especially around Christmas time, and you know what, whoever said that famous line was right. Gift-giving is one of my favorite things about the holiday season, and today I’ve got a fun tutorial for DIY Engraved Acrylic Christmas Gift Tags to help make those gifts extraordinary!
Not only do I love giving gifts, I believe that a beautifully wrapped gift can show the recipient just how special they are. I personally love recieving beautifully wrapped packages that have been personalized just for me, it’s like getting a gift within a gift. It’s the little details like personalized gift tags that make the anticipation of seeing what is inside the beautifully wrapped package even more exciting.
This holiday season I’m personalizing all the gifts under my tree with the help of my Cricut Maker. I’m excited to try out the new Engraving tool and create a set of colorful and fun acrylic gift tags that can be used year after year.

Engraved Gift Tag Tutorial
With the new Engraving tool from Cricut, it’s super easy to create one-of-a-kind personalized gift tags for all your holiday gifts. Here’s how you can create your own personalized gift tags with the Engraving tool.
Start by opening up Design Space and the free Merry and Bright SVG. Open the project to resize and personalize.
Once you’ve finalized your design click on the Make button and then select the material you will be using for this project. I used a 2mm thick acrylic sheet. Use painter’s tape to tape the sheet of acrylic to the purple Cricut mat.
Be sure the Engraving tool is in the machine, load your mat and press the flashing button to start the project.
Once the project has finished engraving remove it from the Cricut and trim your tags to the desired size. I use the Cricut Portable Trimmer to trim my tags to size.
Brush black paint over the engraved surface and immediately wipe off the excess with a clean paper towel. This will help darken the engraved image so it stands out more.
Now, flip the tag over so it is upside down and use colorful acrylic paint to paint the inside of the light bulbs. Let the paint dry completely before flipping the tag bag over.
Punch a hole in the top of the tag and add your colorful and modern gift tags to all the pretty wrapped packages.
I also made larger light bulb tags to add as embellishments to colorfully wrapped gifts.
I love how these simple tags add a bold statement to my holiday gifts. And, the acrylic gift cards are durable so we can use them year after year.
The holiday season is filled with lots of opportunities to give gifts and bring joy to others, from your office Secret Santa, your neighbor’s White Elephant gift exchange, and friends and family near and far. This holiday season make your gifts extraordinary with personalized gift tags using your Cricut Maker.

Thank you for this great tutorial. I have the engraving blade but haven’t tried it yet. I didn’t know you could cut the acrylic with a paper trimmer. Does this work well?
Mariah says
Thanks Bev, I’m excited to create more projects with the Engraving tip, I see so many possibilities with it. Yes, I was able to easily cut the acrylic with the trimmer. I did have to push a little harder than I would with cardstock, but otherwise, it worked well for me. You could also use the True Control Knife Blade to cut it.

This is absolutely genius! I LOVE how these look and it’s so brilliant to use the black paint to help the engraving stand out! So excited to give this a try!

Hello! I really want to make these, but the svg file isn’t opening in my cricut app. Is there another way to get the design? Thanks!
Mariah says
Hi Caroline, send us an email at mariah@gigglesgalore.net and we can try sending the file to you another way.

This is so cute. I tried to open the file also, but Design Space isn’t finding it.

I love, love, love wrapping presents! I always have! I am brand new to cricut so I’m a little clueless. I apologize!
Could you link the acrylic sheet you used? I wandered around Hobby Lobby, but I didn’t even know where to start.
And how did you cut the shape of the Christmas light bulb? I really wanted to do a set of those and write with chalk markers in the non-painted side.
Thank you!!
Mariah says
Hi Angela,
I’ve used these acrylic sheets, https://amzn.to/3uEwoQX and you can usually find them in craft stores in the hobby section (where there would be hobby cars or airplanes). I cut the lightbulb shape on the Cricut using a design that was available in Design Space. If you have any other questions feel free to send me an email and I’ll be happy to help you out.
