As the year winds down I’ve started thinking about my New Year resolutions. At the top of my list is cooking more meals and home and working on my kitchen organization. I want to get better at preparing meals for my family and add some new things to our menu rotation. I needed a little extra motivation in this department, which is why created this DIY painted farmhouse cookbook stand.
Not only is it match perfectly with my kitchen decor, but it will also hopefully help encourage me to break out the cookbooks and create delicious new recipes my whole family will love!
The best part about this recycled project is the fact that it cost me absolutely nothing at all. I love it when that happens. A friend was planning to take this fall themed cookbook stand to Goodwill, but I snatched it up and knew that with a little paint I could transform it to fit my style and decor.
Supplies:
- Decoart Americana Multi-surface paint
- Black Tie, Cotton Ball, Dolphin
- Paint Brushes
- Painters Tape
- Sandpaper
- Cookbook Stand
I started by sanding the image off of the cookbook stand. Once I had most of the image removed I used a damp cloth to wipe the surface clean.
I used the Americana Multi-surface Cotton Ball paint to paint the entire cookbook stand white. The Americana Multi-surface paint is perfect for almost any surface. It doesn’t require a primer or varnish and offers excellent coverage in one to two coats. This special formula is designed to brush out smoothly and once fully cured, creates a durable, hard finish that is highly resistant to cleaning chemicals. Which is ideal when you are using it in a high traffic area like the kitchen.
Once the paint was dry I used painters tape to create a wide line, then I painted it with the black tie paint.
Next, I created two smaller lines on either side of the wide line and painted those with a mixture of the black tie and dolphin paint.
Remove the painter’s tape to reveal the simple farmhouse-inspired design. I sanded mine a little bit to give it more of a rustic feel.
I can’t wait to put my New Year’s Resolution to work, break out the new cookbooks and my pretty new DIY painted farmhouse cookbook stand!

You made this look so easy! Thanks for the step by step instructions including what paint products you used. I am not a dyi’er but will have to try this.
Ps where did you get the measuring spoons?

Thanks so much, Kathryn. I know yours will turn out great! I’m not sure where the measuring spoons are from, they were a gift.
