I’m having so much fun decorating my new house for Christmas this year. I keep finding new spots to add a little extra Christmas cheer and lots of excuses to go shopping and create new things! My new vintage window vignette with these adorable chalky finish painted sled has me singing “let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!” While we aren’t likely to get much snow here in Texas, at least my porch will look super cute this holiday season.
The other day I went to Michaels looking for the paper mache deer head I really wanted and should have bought months ago when I first spotted it (don’t you hate it when that happens!) and of course they didn’t have It, so as I was staring at the shelf willing it to appear I spotted this cute little wooden sled and decided it would be a great addition to my Christmas décor. This is such an easy project and I know you’ll love creating your own Chalky Finish Painted Christmas Sled, so let’s get to it!
I picked up some of my favorite paint, DecoArt chalky finish paint in red, gray, and white while I was at Michaels and headed home to transform my new sled.
First I lightly sanded the wooden sled so that the paint would easily adhere to the surface. Then I painted a base coat of white. I’ve found that these wooden surfaces suck up the paint so having a primer helps.
Next, I used the Gray chalky finish color to paint the rails of the sled.
Then, I painted the sled with the red chalky finish paint. I painted it with 2 coats.
After the sled was painted and dry I sanded it to give it a more vintage look and then used a rag to wipe on the dark brown cream wax to seal and age my little sled.
Once I was happy with the look of the sled I tied a sprig of Christmas greenery to the top.
I love how my cute little sled turned out, but it definitely looked lonely all by its self, so I decided to update my vintage window with a new saying for Christmas. I cut out Let it Snow in gold vinyl on my
Now I have a festive new vignette for my little desk that hangs out on my porch.
