Apples and Donuts Back to School Party

The kids start school next week and ‘Donut’ you know it’s time to celebrate!  The kids are excited to see their friends again, I’m excited to have more regular “office hours” and that, I believe calls for a celebration.  Start off the new school year with this cute Apple and Donuts Back to School Party!

Donuts are one of this years hottest trends and they are a crowd favorite for young and old alike.  I decided to combine them with apples for the perfect school themed party.  I worked with Carli from Dimpleprints to create the adorable party package with beautiful fall colors and the cutest apple shaped donuts, don’t you just love that graphic?

For the party I kept it simple.  I set-up an Apple Tasting station with several varieties of apples like Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Pink Lady, Red Delicious and Fuji with caramel sauce for dipping.  Several different types of donuts were stacked on a cake plate and served as the focal point on the food table.  For another kid friendly option I served donut holes on bamboo skewers, I love these because they are easy for little hands to hold. And because you can’t have a party without cupcakes we served mini salted caramel cupcakes, the perfect compliment to our apples and donuts. A vintage drink crate held bags of caramel popcorn and paper cones filled with donut holes. Milk and apple juice helped wash it all down.

We also made little lunch baskets for everyone with apple juice, GoGo SqueeZ applesauce, cheese crackers, an apple and sandwiches.  I spread out an old quilt for the kids to sit and enjoy their lunch.

The race was on in the “Donuts on a String” game to see who could finish their donut first without using their hands.  This was hilarious to watch and the kids thought it was lots of fun.

I always try to make favors that will remind guest of how much fun they had at the party and fit with the theme.  So of course I sent guest home with apples and donuts.  Mini donuts from Autumn Lynn’s Chocolate Sins perfectly matched the printables from Dimpleprints and custom apple favor boxes from Piggy Bank Parties were filled with apple flavored jelly beans, a little something to sweeten the ‘hole’ school year!

The beauty of this Apples and Donuts Back to School Party is it’s simple, affordable and easy to put together!  Not only is this party perfect for welcoming the start of the new school year, but it would also be great for fall themed parties too!  If you’re kids haven’t started back to school or your planning an outing to pick apples this fall I’m giving away a complete (already printed) set of the Apples and Donuts party package to make your special occasion extraordinary!  **To win the party package leave a comment and tell me what you like most about fall and I’ll pick a random winner on 8/22/13.**

Wow… is all I can say!! ;) You have inspired me to create a similar party to celebrate BOTH of my children’s birthdays (even though neither is in the Fall). We live in the Silicon Valley in California, and even though we enjoy a little bit of Fall here, nothing beats going home (where I grew up) to Michigan every Fall to enjoy family, food, and FALL!! Thank you for inspiring me to create this magical party to celebrate with my family (we will be having it at Erwin Orchards, Plymouth, MI… who sells THE best apple cider and donuts!! ;)

  10. Oh my gosh – the donuts on the strings game is such a fun idea! This party is as adorable as it is delicious! I mean, who doesn’t like caramel apples and donuts, right? I have to pin this one now so I remember it for when my little guy reaches the age for school!
