Does your family have any special Valentine’s Day traditions? Do you make special heart shaped cinnamon rolls for breakfast? Or do you enjoy a special treat, like our Cupid Floats or Conversation Heart Parfaits, after school? To me, Valentine’s Day seems like the perfect holiday to create special family traditions and focus on showing love and gratitude to one another. Handmade gifts from the heart, like this “I Love You Because …” jar, are sure to be cherished treasure for many years to come. This is the perfect Valentine’s Day craft that you can make and use all month long.

There has been a lot of negativity surfacing lately and every where you turn hurtful things are being said. For a while I have felt like I needed to focus on the positive and making sure that my kids are seeing and feeling lots of love at home. I’ve been trying to figure out just how to do this, and the other day while cleaning inspiration struck.
Almost 5 years ago I created a Tin for Ten 10th Anniversary Gift for my husband and the other day while I was cleaning out a bookshelf I found this little gift with a few of his other special mementos. I was touched that after all these years my husband had kept this simple gift. It reminded me that simple treasures and gifts like that are truly extraordinary, because they come from the heart. And, it got me thinking about Valentine’s Day and how I could recreate this same gift for my whole family.
The idea for the I Love You Because Jar is the perfect way to help our family focus on the positive and work on practicing love at home. I’m looking forward to this new Valentine’s Day tradition, and hope that this simple craft will not only be a beautiful treasure and keepsake but a meaningful exercise for our family in showing kindness and love.
