School supplies are way more fun when they are cute and personalized, wouldn’t you agree? With fall just around the corner I thought it would be fun to create some adorable felt woodland pencil toppers for my kids. Who knows maybe it will inspire them to get their homework done quicker.
I teamed up with Spellbinders to create this cute and simple craft. This is a fun project you could even make with your kids.
What You Will Need:
- Platinum Die Cutting and Embossing Machine
- Standard Cutting Plates
- Brown, White, Black, Grey, Pink, Yellow Felt
- Contour Hey Foxy Steel Rule Die
- Contour Who’s There? Steel Rule Die
- Contour Bandit Steel Rule Die
- White Embroidery Thread
- Pink Embroidery Thread
- Needle
- Felt & Foam Tacky Glue
Step 1:
Place the Contour Who’s There? steel rule die face up on the standard cutting plate.
Step 2:
Place a piece of brown felt on the top of the steel die. Here’s a tip: You can easily cut up to 3 layers of the felt at one time.
Step 3:
Put the second cutting plate on top of the felt and run it through the Platinum Die Cutting and Embossing Machine.
Step 4:
Remove the cutting plates and the pieces of the cut felt. You will need two pieces of each body part for each topper you plan to make.
Step 5:
Now it’s time to start assembling your cute little pencil toppers. For the owl I used the pink thread to stitch the heart on the front of the owl. Next, layer the two pieces of the owl body parts together.
Step 6:
Use white thread to hand-stitch the pieces together. Make sure you leave a small opening at the bottom for the pencil.
Step 7:
Once you’ve stitched the piece together glue the little details, like the eyes, on the felt topper.
Step 8:
Insert a pencil to finish your super cute pencil toppers.
I adore how these cute little felt woodland pencil toppers turned out. I think these would make super cute party favors for a woodland themed birthday party too.
In addition to the owl I also made a fox and raccoon, they are all just so darn cute! I may just have to keep them for myself.
