We will still have a good month of summer left to enjoy, so it’s a little hard to imagine that a new school year is just around the corner. I actually really love when my kids head back to school, not just because I’m ready to get back into a routine, but because I get excited about meeting their new teachers and seeing who will be helping shape their little minds throughout the year. I love creating fun little gifts to show those teachers just how excited we are, so this year with the help of DecoArt I decided to get a head start and made this adorable DIY Succulent Ruler Planter for our teachers back to school gift.
These little gifts were super easy and cheap to make and I think they will be a fun little gift when school starts. Here is what you will need to create your own ruler planter:
- Rulers
- Half Pint Milk Container, cleaned and dried.
- DecoArt Acrylic Paint
- Metal Cutting Scissors
- Twine
- Hot Glue
- Paint Brush
- Free Printable Tags
- Succulents
First, start by cutting the top off of your milk container and wash and dry it. I decided to spray paint mine white because it showed through the holes in the ruler, but this step is optional.
Next, you will need to measure the height of your container and use the metal cutting scissors to cut them down to size.
Once you have all of your ruler pieces cut you can start hot gluing them on to your milk container.
Now that all of your rulers are glued to the container it’s time to add a pop of color with the DecoArt acrylic paint. I used the Charteuse Yellow because it just makes me feel happy when I look at it, and we all know those sweet teachers can use a little cheer in their hectic days! Use washi tape to tape off the bottom section of the planter and then paint the rulers.
Once the paint dries tie the ruler planter with some of the twine just above the painted section. Now you are ready to plant your succulents.
To finish off this super cute gift I created free printable tags that say “This Year is Going to Rule with You as My Teacher.” I painted one of the left over pieces of the ruler, attached the printable tag with glue dots and stuck it in the planter.
Now you have the perfect little back to school gift to take to your teacher. I think this darling little planter will so cute sitting on a teachers desk and hopefully it will be a reminder of just how much we appreciate everything they do!
