My kids are officially on summer break and we are all looking forward to sleeping in and pool days. The first few weeks of summer break always start off great, everyone is excited about lounging by the pool, watching TV and hanging out with friends. But, it won’t be long before I start to hear the familiar “Mom, I’m bored” statements. This summer I teamed up with DecoArt to tackle those summer blues with a creative DIY Summer Boredom Buster Spinner.
So when boredom sets in I’ll be ready! Now my kids can take matters into their own hands and take a chance to see how they will beat their summer blues.
Before you know it your kids will be spinning their way to fun in no time. Make sure you head over to the DecoArt blog to check out all of the supplies you will need as well as the step by step tutorial for creating your own spinner.
One of the things I love about this project is that you can customize it however you want. I used some of my favorite paint from DecoArt, Extreme Sheen to give this simple piece of cardboard a shimmer look. The rich colors remind me of yummy ice cream flavors on a hot day.
Coming up with activities to keep your kids busy on a whim can sometimes be a challenge. I don’t know about you, but whenever my kids come to me and start to complain about being bored it doesn’t matter whether I throw out 10 ideas or 100 they never seem satisfied with my suggestions. Which is exactly why I decided to get ahead of things by creating this fun and interactive spinner. This little game of chance makes choosing an activity a whole lot more fun. I created this FREE Summer Boredom Buster Activities printable which you can download and print to customize your DIY spinner.
I know that eight activities won’t keep my kiddos entertained all summer long so I used double-sided tape (which removes easily) to adhere the activities to each section. Then throughout the summer I can print up new boredom buster activities and switch things up.
I’m excited to see if this fun little craft will help cure our summer boredom when it officially sets in. But for now, we are enjoying afternoon outings to the pool, park play dates with our cousins and eating lots of popsicles!
Don’t forget to visit DecoArt to learn how to make your own DIY Summer Boredom Buster Spinner and check out their newest products that you can use to spruce up your outdoor space for summer or create fun art projects with the kids. And good luck keep those kids entertained all summer!
