I was inspired to do this project based on the Pleated Poppy’s and My Backyard Eden’s Family Rules.
I have wanted to redo the artwork that hangs in the hallway which leads to our open Living Room & Kitchen, but knew I wasn’t going to be buying anything anytime soon so this idea was perfect.
Rather than make rules I decided to use words and phrases that would inspire our family…Words to Live By.
My hubby took down the existing art (I forgot to take a before pic of it hanging on the wall) and dismantled it.I spray painted the frame with Rustoleum Antique BronzeI picked a deep red to paint over the current art and quickly realized a primer was going to be necessary.Once the primer dried I went back to the red and painted on several coats. I had a brief moment of panic when the beautiful deep red I had picked looked more like hot pink. Luckily with 10 coats of paint later it was exactly what I had envisioned.
Next I brought out my favorite craft tool, the Cricut and got to work designing and cutting out the words. I first cut them out in scrap paper so I could lay them out and decide where everything needed to go.Once I was satisfied (and hubby had put in his two cents) I cut everything out in vinyl. Next came the tedious task of lining everything up and putting it on the canvas. At this point I couldn’t believe how long my “quick and easy” redo was taking me (going on 3 weeks, with a few hiatuses). But, it was all worth it…I LOVE IT!This is one of those projects that truly makes me happy. I smile every time I look at it and I find myself reading the phrases over and over again. And the best part is, it only cost me $25 and now I have a whole new look that I LOVE.I am linking up with these fab parties this week:
