Everyone, get ready… It’s almost Halloween! I can hardly contain my excitement, since Halloween is one of my FAVORITE holidays. It has parties, dressing up, and tons of decorations. Oh, and FREE CANDY. What could be better?! In order to show off my love for Halloween (and puns), I created this super cute Striped Happy Halloween sign to place on my entry table. It’s quick and easy to make, and you can personalize it to say anything you want!
You will need:
- 9 x 12 Canvas (similar here)
- 1″ Painter’s Tape (here)
- T-Square or Ruler (here)
- Pencil
- Black Paint
- Paintbrush
- Gold Letter Stickers (here)
Directions:
Using your T-Square, make a mark on the side of your canvas at every inch. You can definitely use a ruler for this if you don’t have a T-square, but you need to make sure you hold the ruler straight along the top edge, otherwise all your stripes will be crooked.
Once you’ve marked off all your inches, turn your ruler sideways and draw a line straight across. Repeat on the other side. I did it this way so that you can be sure that the lines are straight without having pencil marks on the front of your canvas.
Place the end of your tape on one side of the canvas along the line you drew and press it down. Then pull it all the way around to the other side, match it up with the lines, and press the whole thing down to secure it. Repeat the whole way down.
Now comes the fun part! Paint your canvas black, making sure to do the front and both sides. Let dry, then do a second coat.
When your paint has dried, peel off your tape.
Cut out your gold letters to write your Halloween message. I went with Happy Halloween Witches, but you can write anything! Suggestions: Trick or Treat, Enter If You Dare, Have a Faboolous Halloween.
Once you’ve arranged your letters, begin peeling them off and sticking them down one-by-one. This will help keep your text mostly straight with even spacing.
Put up and enjoy!
What’s your favorite part of Halloween? Mine is a tie between the candy and getting dressed up. Lucky for me, you get candy when you dress up- win win!
